A quick video I had the pleasure of fiming, thanks the the collaborative efforts of Ocean Blue Tree, ReShark, Misool Resort, Papua Diving - Sorido Bay & Kri Eco Resort, and Thrive Conservation.

This groundbreaking leopard shark re-wilding project is still underway, and the success they've achieved is pretty phenomenal.

While there are many active parties involved with this project, some of the real heroes are the Shark Nannies.

Just stepped off of one of the best dive trips I’ve ever been on thanks to Mermaid Liveaboards - Asia's Premier Liveaboard Fleet. The sea and weather conditions in Raja Ampat could not have been better, the sites could not have been fishier, and the company on board could not have been more fun. So glad I could share this incredible trip with Mon Amores! Vídeos coming soon 😁

Currently in Raja Ampat aboard the Mermaid I Liveaboard. The conditions of the weather and reefs have been unreal in the north! (Knock on wood). So great to be back onboard and diving with the fantastic crew of Mermaid Liveaboards - Asia's Premier Liveaboard Fleet and my beautiful wife Mon Amores!

This was one of my most favorite promos to edit as it was for Mermaid II of Mermaid Liveaboards, which was where I lived and worked from 2013-2018 and easily one of the most influential times in my life.

I was able to film a lot of the topside stuff for this promo while running a Snorkel Venture tour from Lembeh through Halmahera and into Raja. Special thanks to all the Snorkel Venture guests who were very willing models which was likely influenced by the little happy-hour Mermaid II threw for them! 🥳 As I used to work as the Video and Photo Pro for this boat I had plenty of footage to work with, which was a fun little trip down memory lane!

Big thanks to the Mermaid Crew who are easily the best crew in Indonesia! Can't wait to jump on Mermaid I next week with Mon Amores to film their promo in Raja!

A bit over a year ago I had the opportunity to spend a couple weeks at Siddhartha Oceanfront Resort & Spa in north-east Bali shooting a bunch of promo material for them. One of the videos I produced for them was this quick one-minute video aimed at showing what "a day in the life" at Siddhartha is like. Hopefully, you can get an idea of how amazing this resort is.

This promo was a lot more land-based than many of my other promos. really enjoy land-based filming, even though it's a lot more tedious than filming underwater, at least for me, as I love playing with new camera movements and ways of choreographing the different scenes.

If you haven’t seen it yet, make sure you check out the new Netflix series, Our Oceans. It’s an amazing natural history series showcasing some seriously awesome never before seen or documented behaviors from fish and everything else that lives in the ocean. For example, octopus using their siphon like a blow-dart gun to shoot small stones at fish, or bumphead parrotfish ramming each other like bighorn sheep!

My best good bud Oliver Deppert was the Assistant Producer for two of these episodes, the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean episodes, and he’s done an
amazing job of finding incredible stories and setting up the shoots, which is a ton of work! Along with Oli is of course my old bosses Roger Munns and Jason Isley who were the ones documenting many of these unreal stories and behaviors in great detail. I know they all spent many hundreds of hours underwater waiting for that that magic moment. These guys are the best of the best and when it comes to underwater filming and storytelling, when you watch the series you’ll see why!

I’m also pleased to have a little sequence in the Indian Oceans episode that I filmed in Bali back in 2022. One of the ongoing themes of the series is the effects us humans are having on the planet, like habitat destruction, ocean plastics etc. As Indonesia has become a sort of collection point for a lot of THE WORLD’S ocean plastics due to its vast network of islands which end up trapping plastics from all over the world, I was tasked with filming mantas feeding in it.

Mantas are filter feeders who feed on things like plankton. Plankton is pushed around by the ocean currents and ends up collecting in bays in dense clouds. Ocean plastics are also pushed around by the same currents as plankton and it too collects in the same bays, in giant floating rafts. Mantas then come to feed in these bays, targeting the plankton, but no doubt ingest a fair amount of micro plastics.

If you love the ocean and or just love things that are awesome, this series is for you!

This incredible cephalopod uses its siphon to create a powerful jet stream, launching small rocks with precision to ward off pesky fish.More About Our Oceans...

I had the extreme good fortune of being able to join a trip to the Revillagigedo Islands (Socorro, Roca Partida, San Benedicto, and Clarion Island). This trip was hosted by Ocean Blue Tree, for which my superstar wife Mon Amores is the Director of, and Pelagios Kakunjá, as a way of bringing some of the most influential shark and ray experts together for a two-week trip where they could not only do their science, but also collaborate with each other in an attempt research these threatened animals further and maintain and expand the levels of conservation in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean."Collaboration is key" when it comes to protecting threatened species, and the combined forces of these incredible scientists is the only way forward when it comes to enacting and enforcing protective measures for these enigmatic species.

One of the big topics of conversation on the summit was about how can this ensemble of scientists protect species once they leave the protective boundaries of places like the Revillagigedo Islands. Sharks and rays in the Eastern Tropical Pacific are known to move between groups of islands like the Revillagigedo Islands, Cocos Island, Galapagos, among others, and this is where they are most vulnerable to fishing-both legal and illegal. As these scientists came from Ecuador (Galapagos), Costa Rica (Cocos Island), Colombia (Malpello), and Mexico (Revillagigedo Islands), all places where sharks and rays move to and from, all the data they gather from this trip will hopefully help to enact further legislation to create protective corridors for these species to safely move through.

I could not be more proud of my wife for organizing such an incredible and important meeting of minds to help save the ocean!

Anywho, I was there not only to carry the bags and for Montse and remind her how pretty and smart she is, but also to document the whole mission from start to finish. I will be making a much longer version, but before I release that I wanted to put together a quick teaser to showcase the mission!

Special Thanks to:
Montse Amores, Bruno Macena, Carlos Robalino, Eduardo Espinoza Nobleza, Erick Higuera, Felix Aguirre, Fernanda Raygoza Díaz, Flippo Varini, Jorge Fontes, Irene Casanova, James Ketchum, Jeffry Madrigal, Pedro Romero, Ramon Tello, Juan Bonilla, Andres Lopez, Osvaldo Hernandez, Randall Arauz, Sandra Bessudo, Yannis Peter Papastamatiou, Mauricio Hoyos Padilla, César Peñaherrera Palma

Beyond thrilled to finally see the trailer for what will no doubt be an incredible Netflix series! Thanks to my best good bud Oliver Deppert I was lucky enough to shoot a sequence for it several years ago that will be featured in the Indian Oceans episode. It will be very strange to see my footage paired with the voice over by President Obama!

Big congrats to Oliver and the rest of the team for working so hard on this massive production that will no doubt set a very high bar for natural history productions.

Set your calendars for November 20th!
