Work in progress…
I’ve always been a bit of a dreamer.
The kind to throw my heart and soul into something, give it everything I have, and still cheer just as loudly when someone else does well.
But there’s an old Irish habit of keeping one another in check.
Don’t get too big for your boots.
Don’t be having notions.
Don’t rise too far above what others had in mind for you.
And for a long time, I listened. I made myself smaller, questioned my ambition, and wondered if wanting more somehow meant I thought I was more.
It doesn’t.
I’m learning not to shrink myself to fit someone else’s perception of who I should be.
Rise. Grow. Have the notions.
Put your heart into what you love, and lift others as you go.
There’s room for us all to shine.
Still learning, still growing, still a work in progress…
But I’d rather grow into my boots than spend my life trying to fit into someone else’s. ❤️
