Vikings.

Some came for the history.
Some came for the food.
Some came for the Vikings.

And the Vikings delivered. ⚔️

Day I – Part II

When most people think of historical festivals, they think of battles, armour and combat.
But some of the most interesting moments happen away from the arena.
Conversations between friends.
Last-minute preparations.
Quiet moments between fights.
The people who bring these events to life.
A few portraits and moments from Day I at the Timahoe Heritage Festival.
And again: feel free to tag yourselves, your friends and share this with your groups.

Day ONE, part I
Steel, skill and a lot of controlled chaos.
One of the highlights of the Timahoe Heritage Festival was watching the armoured fighters step into the arena.

From the outside it looks like pure mayhem.

Up close, it's timing, technique, experience and a surprising amount of respect between opponents.

A few moments from the tournament.

Feel free to tag the fighters and groups involved.

Day II at the Howth Maritime & Seafood Festival organised by Fingal County Council.
From the harbour atmosphere and busy crowds to the clash of shields and steel, the festival brought together history, culture and a great day out by the sea.
One of the highlights for me was meeting the historical reenactors who helped bring a small piece of the past back to life for visitors of all ages.
Here are a few moments from the second day of the festival.

A few moments from the recent event at the Irish Military Museum.
Steel, wool, grass, mud, shields, axes… and surprisingly good humour considering everyone looked ready to raid a monastery.
Big thanks to Inis Fáil combat and living history for the atmosphere, stories, patience, and for bringing history back to life properly – not as plastic fantasy, but something you can almost smell in the air.
