This Saturday, Swords Castle will come alive with Vikings and Slavs. 🛡️

We’re delighted to invite everyone to the second edition of Ancestral Nest – Vikings & Slavs Heritage Show, taking place on Saturday, 1 August, from 10:00 to 17:00 at Swords Castle.

The programme includes a living history village, historical parade, 1v1 warriors’ tournament, buhurt armoured combat, 5v5 bridge fight, folk music and dance, crafts and workshops.

Photo4U IRELAND is proud to support the event as its official media partner. We’ll be there throughout the day, documenting the people, action and atmosphere.

Presented by Polonica Eire, with support from Fingal County Council and the Polish Embassy in Dublin.

Not every story happens in battle.

Some of the best moments were much quieter:
children running through the grass,
people working, talking, laughing,
families moving through the camp,
small scenes of everyday life inside a world built for the weekend.

This is the part I always like to look for —
the moments between the main events.

CALLING ALL Vikings, knights, reenactors and living history crews.

We are looking for more people to join Ancestral Show at Swords Castle, CO. Fingal on 01 August 2026.

Vikings, medieval fighters, archers, craftspeople, musicians, dancers, living history groups and wonderfully armoured troublemakers — this is your call.

We want to bring Swords Castle to life with a full day of history, colour, music, combat, craft and community.

There will be:
⚔️ Viking and medieval displays
⚔️ 1v1 combat
⚔️ group battles
⚔️ bridge fight / shield wall action
⚔️ crafts and workshops
⚔️ music and dance
⚔️ a full historical atmosphere inside Swords Castle

If you are part of a Viking tribe, medieval crew, reenactment group, combat team, archery group, craft circle or living history project, we would love to hear from you.

Date: 01 August 2026
Location: Swords Castle, Co Fingal
Event: NEST - Vikings & Slavs Heritage Show

A village, a community, and much more than just battles.

A huge thank you to Magnus Viking Association for the invitation, the warm welcome and a truly brilliant weekend in Northern Ireland.

These are just the first glimpses from a much larger story — families, warriors, quiet moments, laughter, children, and everything that happened between the battles.

Very nice news.

Two of my images received Bronze Awards in the IPPVA Reportage & Photojournalism category.

One of them was taken at Timahoe Heritage Festival, the other during an event in Boyne Valley Viking Experience.

I am especially happy about this, as these were my first submissions to a photography competition of this level.

Thank you to Irish Professional Photographers & Videographers Association for reviewing and recognising these images.
