Colour mixing doesn’t have to be complicated but it is probably the one thing I find students in my classes struggle with the most.
Part 2 of my mini series is all about slowing down and watching paint shift. A bit of patience, a lot of play and then the magic starts to happen.

Before the paint goes on, there’s this quiet stage where I’m working out the bones of any painting , the movement, where things might live. It happens first in a sketchbook because not always what we see as inspiration works the same once it’s down on paper. But doing this step rules out so many issues and hitches that once it’s time to lay paint down it’s plain sailing . It’s not pretty yet, but it’s important. This is where the painting begins.
