There is something uniquely special about memory lane - itโs a little bit like time travel!
Over the past few weeks, I was lucky enough to travel along the East Coast with my family. One of my bucket-list wishes was to revisit my alma mater, Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
I hadnโt been back since graduating with a degree in photography over 20 years ago, and I was so excited to return to the place that, in many ways, helped kindle the passion that continues to be such a big part of my work today.
As I approached the photography building at Woods Studio, I was expecting to find a completely different place from the one I had left behind, where film and darkrooms were the norm. I was sure that, along with the rest of the world, Bard would have moved on to digital.
Instead, I was greeted by that old familiar smell of darkroom chemicals and was delighted to discover a place that felt almost untouched by time. My old senior darkroom was still there, and I even found a current student printing just like I did โback in the day.โ
My children got to see a demo of a โreal-life darkroom,โ and I walked away feeling completely reconnected with my photographic roots.
