My favorite Selichot moment ever, from years ago.

There is something about seeing soldiers stand together and pray.

The people who spend their days protecting us, standing before HaShem with everyone else โ€” asking for forgiveness, for strength, for another year.

I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll ever get used to this sight.

May HaShem bless the soldiers of Israel, protect them, strengthen them, and bring them safely home. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Having fun. How unusual for me. ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿค
I almost forgot it was possible.

And maybe thatโ€™s what this Elul is teaching me.

To look back at the year without pretending it didnโ€™t hurt.
To remember what I lost. Who I lost.
To remember the prayers I whispered, the ones that were answered, and the ones that werenโ€™t.

There are things I still donโ€™t understand.
There are parts of me that are still grieving.
And I know Iโ€™m carrying that grief with me into the new year.

But somewhere between the Mount of Olives yesterday and the Dead Sea today, I caught myself laughing.
Actually having fun.
And for a moment, life didnโ€™t feel like something I was merely surviving. Thank you Flavia for it.

Rosh Hashanah is almost here.
A new year. Another beginning.

I donโ€™t know what the next year will bring.
Iโ€™m almost afraid to hope.
But maybe teshuva isnโ€™t only about becoming someone new.
Maybe sometimes itโ€™s simply finding your way back to life.

Shanah tovah. May the coming year be gentler with us.

โ€œChoose life, so that you and your children may live.โ€
โ€” Devarim 30:19

Okay, Hashem. Iโ€™m trying. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Iโ€™m still angry.
Still fighting.
Still asking why.
Still not magically happy just because I chose life.

But Iโ€™m here.

Some days I choose life loudly.
Some days I barely choose it at all.

And maybe that counts too.

Shabbat Shalom ๐Ÿค
