MK Iqbal – Photographer, Photojournalist, Visual Storyteller
Born in 1965, MK Iqbal has spent much of his life behind the camera, documenting people, places, and moments that often go unnoticed. His journey in photography began in Kerala, where he worked as a photojournalist for Madhyamam and Varthamanam newspapers, capturing stories that reflected the realities, struggles, and aspirations of everyday life.
Driven by a passion for visual storytelling, Iqbal later moved to Delhi, where he worked with Mean Time English magazine and the investigative news portal Tehelka.com. During this period, he covered a diverse range of assignments, from social and political developments to human-interest stories, sharpening his ability to tell powerful stories through a single frame.
Over the years, photography became more than a profession—it became a lifelong commitment to observing and preserving the human experience. Whether documenting the lives of workers in a tea estate, recording moments of social change, or creating portraits that reveal character and emotion, Iqbal's photographs are marked by empathy, patience, and a deep respect for his subjects.
Today, he works as a freelance photographer while running his own photo studio. His work continues to bridge journalism and art, combining documentary authenticity with a photographer’s eye for beauty, light, and meaning.
For MK Iqbal, photography is not merely about recording what is seen; it is about revealing the stories that lie beneath the surface and preserving them for future generations.
"Every photograph is a fragment of history, a moment that will never return, and a story waiting to be told." — MK Iqbal

Papanasam Beach on a bright morning looks exactly like this in your frame.
What’s in the photo • A wide stretch of golden sand under a clear blue sky with thin clouds • The Arabian Sea rolling in with white-capped waves meeting the shore • In the foreground, a flock of pigeons pecking around bits of color on the sand • Small groups of people sitting on towels, chatting in the sun, two dogs resting nearby • A red flag on the right marking the swimming zone, and the whole scene feels warm, breezy, and unhurried
It has that classic Varkala balance: lively but not crowded, natural light doing most of the work.

Morning at Papanasam Beach, Varkala. Sea breeze, soft sand, and a few quiet moments in between the waves.
