Last evening was all about good pours, comforting flavours, and conversations that lingered long after the plates were cleared at The Porcupine at the Prickly Manor an Indian Public House that truly pours India first.
With retro vinyl spinning in the background and an old Bangalore charm woven into every corner, the space instantly felt warm, easy, and familiar.
From a beautifully balanced gin-based cocktail to a surprisingly delicious avatar of lemon chicken, every dish carried its own personality. The lip-smacking lamb cutlet was undoubtedly a standout, while the roast chicken pizza, crisp fish bites, and buttery smash potatoes completed the indulgent evening perfectly.
What I loved most was how thoughtfully comfort food and nostalgia came together without trying too hard.
A heartfelt thank you to for the warm hospitality and for hosting such a memorable first pour evening 🥂

Neem flower is fleeting, yet deeply rooted in Odia kitchens. For generations, it’s been valued not just for its bitter notes but for its quiet role in building immunity. It can be dried and stored, but the fresh bloom carries a character that can’t be replaced. Lightly sautéed with onion and potato, or simply eaten raw with pakhala, it holds memory and medicine together. This time, I took a small detour — coating aloo bharta with neem flowers and giving it a gentle shallow fry.

With pakhala, it became a plate of summer, memory, and quiet joy. A humble dish that speaks deeply of where I come from home.

Today feels extra special. After 42 years, Maa has returned to her first love—classical singing—something she left behind after marriage, quietly carrying it within her all these years. Watching her relearn, rediscover, and rejoice in music fills my heart with pride and emotion. On this Odia New Year, I’m sharing her voice—a piece of her journey, her courage, and her unfinished dreams finally finding their way back home. 💛

I booked my stay at , the only Art House Stay in Grand Road Puri which is just a km from the Temple . It was awarded as a “Best Homestay” 🧡 winner at the India’s Favourite Homestays Awards by MakeMyTrip (MMT) in 2026 💫

At this art boutique homestay in Puri, food becomes storytelling. Pushpa, mother of entrepreneur , curates a menu rooted in the Kumuti (Komati) community—traditionally traders with deep culinary ties to Andhra. Under her guidance, the kitchen team recreates these heirloom recipes, quietly preserving a culture that travels through taste and memory.

She also took a moment to teach me a simple snack called Khadu, one that carries the essence of Kumuti home cooking.
The afternoon unfolded gently, filled with stories, aromas, and hands-on learning. I walked away not just with a recipe, but with a deeper understanding of Kumuti culinary traditions.

Rooted in the artistic soul of Odisha, Mukha Chitra is a striking expression of storytelling through handcrafted masks. Created using paper mache and adorned with intricate Pattachitra-style paintings, these masks embody mythological characters, folk deities, and cultural narratives. Each piece is a meticulous blend of sculpting and painting, where layers of paper pulp are shaped, dried, and finally brought to life with bold lines, natural colors, and expressive eyes.
I remember staying at a boutique art Homestay where an entire wall was adorned with Mukha Chitra—each face watching silently, yet telling a different story. There was something deeply immersive about that space, where art didn’t just hang, it breathed and belonged.
Traditionally crafted in heritage villages like Raghurajpur, this art reflects devotion and generational skill, carrying Odisha’s identity within every stroke.

On this Utkal Divas, may we celebrate and preserve such timeless crafts.A tribute to the hands that keep Odisha’s heritage alive, one masterpiece at a time.

I find myself immersed in this boutique sanctuary where art is not displayed, but lived.
Each corner quietly narrates Odisha’s heritage—be it the intricate grace of Pattachitra or the timeless strength of sculpted stone or the puri Jagannath temple kitchen stories .
The soft gleam of bell metal ‘Pakhala Kansa’ accents adds a rhythm of tradition to the space. There is an effortless dialogue here between craftsmanship and comfort, past and present.
A stay not merely experienced, but deeply felt here..
