With scrunched eyes and open hands, she told the world - "I am here." That syringe, those gloves in the background don't matter. All that matters is that sound. The sound that makes every mother cry too.
As a photographer in an OT, we hold our breath. The light is harsh, the air is tense, and then - life. In that one second, the doctor lifts not just a baby, but a family's entire future. Blood, sweat, science and miracle - all in one frame. This is the moment I will never get used to.
In that quiet corner, I saw it - three hands, one heartbeat. A mother's hand still trembling, a father's hand trying to be strong, and a whole new life held safely in between. I switched to black and white because some moments don't need color, they just need to be felt.
She had just arrived. Still curled up like she was remembering the womb. Wet hair, tiny fists, and that little tape on her back telling me she was being watched over. I didn't pose her. I just let her be. This is what peace looks like, 2 minutes old.
The first time someone is lifted up, so that a whole family can rise. This is what a miracle looks like in scrubs.
And then she smiled. On a cold digital scale that read her number. Everyone in the room was counting numbers, I was counting expressions. A few kilos of pure, unfiltered joy. She didn't know she was being measured, she just knew she was finally here.
