Sweatered Goats of South Asia

Sweatered Goats of South Asia People put clothes on their goats to keep them warm in India and Bangladesh.

Across parts of India and Bangladesh, goat owners clothe their goats in human clothing during the cool winter months, ostensibly to keep them warm. Intrepid traveler and amateur photographer Christy Sommers captures this sweet (and fashion-forward) phenomenon as she wanders through South Asia, eager to share the places and livestock she loves with a wider audience back home in the US and beyond.

Hello everyone! The 2026 sweatered goat calendar has gone live and is available once again. This is the 13th edition of everyone's favorite chic caprines! Once again, half of the proceeds from the calendar sales will benefit the Asha Deep school in Varanasi, India - last year we were able to raise $12,700 for the school with this project. See the comments for details, and thank you so much for your support!

India's most fashionable livestock are back for their 11th year in the 2024 Sweatered Goat calendar. Like previous years, 50% of the proceeds will go to support Asha Deep Vidyashram, a school in Varanasi, India (where many of the goats call home). Last year we raised $12,200 between calendar sales and donations and are happy to support the school with this project for another year.

You can order yours using the Google Form (https://forms.gle/krawNVmiF2ZGYWW86) or on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/listing/1594535135/2024-sweatered-goat-calendar?etsrc=sdt). Thank you for your support of the goats and this project!

The sweatered goats are back for another year, y'all! 2022 calendars are now up for sale. Here's a preview of some of the 2022 calendar models, all in their winter finest. Once again, 50% of the calendar proceeds will go to support Asha Deep Vidyashram, a K-8 school in Varanasi, India (and home to many of the goat models). Last year we were able to raise $11,200 in support of Asha Deep between calendar sales and additional donations, and we're hoping to surpass that amount this year to help Asha Deep fulfill their dreams of building their very own school building in 2022.

You can orders yours using my Google Form (https://forms.gle/W8c2QokAsUS5TN9Z7) or on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/listing/1109947753/2022-sweatered-goat-calendar). Thank you all for taking joy in the goats and your support of this project!

Hi y'all, it's that time of year again - the goats are back! I was lucky to spend all of February in India visiting friends, drinking chai, and photographing goats, so despite the chaos 2020 has wrought, the goats will go on! As in years past, 50% of the calendar proceeds will support the Asha Deep school in Varanasi, India. You can order calendars through my Google Form (https://forms.gle/Leca78vBfN482oXo6 ) or on Etsy (link in comments). More goat photos to come here and on Instagram too! 🙂
