Your Last Chance to Photograph the Black Leopard in Manas?

September could be your last opportunity to photograph the Black Leopard family before Manas National Park officially reopens.

Over the past few months, we have had the privilege of following this remarkable family closely — watching the cubs grow, explore and become increasingly independent.

With the park reopening soon, this September workshop offers a rare opportunity to spend time with them before the forest returns to its regular rhythm.

If you’ve been waiting to photograph the Black Leopard of Manas, this could be the time to make it happen.

Some days, the Himalayas don't just give you a Snow Leopard. They give you the whole experience.

Caught in the snowfall during one of our Snow Leopard Photography Expeditions in Spiti, India.

Cold, quiet, completely unpredictable — and exactly where you want to be.

This is why Borneo keeps calling me back.

A young Bornean Orangutan nursing from its mother — one of those quiet, tender moments that makes every journey into the tropical rainforest of Borneo worthwhile.

And perhaps that's what makes Borneo so fascinating. You can return year after year and still find moments you've never witnessed before.

In another week, I'll be leading a small group of photographers into the Bornean rainforest. If you missed this year's journey, May next year is open.

DM to connectnwirh me directly if you'd like to know more.

Some souls love the darkness.

This Black Leopard cub is from our recently concluded workshop in Manas.

Over the past few months, there were many days when we spent hours waiting for the Black Leopard family, only for them to appear at twilight — sometimes just when the forest was about to disappear into complete darkness.

This was one such evening when we managed to squeeze out a few photographs and videos before the light gave up completely.

Excuse the noise. Even DaVinci gave up trying to fix it.

BLACK LEOPARD PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Manas National Park, Assam

For the past many months, Manas has given us some extraordinary encounters — from a Black Leopard mother moving through the forest with her cubs, to playful, curious young ones learning the ways of the wild.

And now, there is one final opportunity to witness and photograph them before this area outside the park, now being protected by the forest department, is opened for general vehicles and local people.

I’ll be conducting the last workshop before the park reopens, making this the final window to photograph the Black Leopard before the closure period.

Have you seen a Snow Leopard in the wild?

That first glimpse never gets easier to appreciate.

Hours can pass while scanning the broken slopes, until a movement suddenly breaks the pattern and the landscape comes alive.

It had been circling for a reason.

For several minutes, we watched this Bearded Vulture, aka Lammergeier, high above us, holding the same area and gradually dropping lower with every circle.

We kept watching, trying to understand what had caught its attention.

Then it finally came down — and we saw it.

A piece of bone and flesh, probably from a sheep.

For a bird that specialises in feeding on bones and bone marrow, this wasn't just something it had found. It was exactly what it had been looking for.

Sometimes, the most interesting part of a wildlife encounter is everything that happens before you understand it.

That look. That calm, effortless posture on a sheer rock face is something you never get tired of watching.

For a few moments, the Grey Ghost becomes almost indistinguishable from the mountains. Then it moves, and you remember you're watching one of the most elusive cats on Earth.

Happy Sunday evening from the Himalayan Brown Bear family. 🐻

Nothing quite matches the feeling of seeing Himalayan Brown Bear cubs emerging after hibernation.

If you'd like to photograph and experience these beautiful moments with me on the next expedition, DM me or comment “Cubs” below, and I'll share the details.
