Rare Ball lightening captured during yesterday’s storm, Kolkata, India. It has been estimated that 5% of the world population has seen this phenomenon. I got lucky last evening. Even today, we don’t have a crystal-clear understanding of how they form.
The 2nd and 3rd images are of cloud to cloud/cloud to air lightening strikes.
Kolkata witnessed the first Norwester of 2024 on 06.05.2024.

With a setting Sun towards the horizon, (back of the hills and lots of vegetation) clicked this pic from Coimbatore (down South, India), with the help of One plus Nord 2 camera, Binocs and an X-Ray sheet. Within minutes the Sun already went further down (5-10% remaining above horizon) , I had to sit in the bus and head back home 😑 the moving bus gave me just a two second glance, meanwhile the Sun had set, by the time i reached the city! But very happy with whatever i could see.

ShotonOnePlus: A bright meteorite while it was making a fall and piercing through the Earth's surface at 11 PM IST on 03.10.2021, clicked accidentally by me while my regular night sky gazing. I had just kept my mobile camera long exposure ON and was walking while looking up. This bright ball of fire 🔥 crossed my head and smashed!
The light flash from this object probably started at an altitude of 120 km, and ended maybe 60-80 km above surface, meteors only become visible when they above sea surface. Meteors and meteorites are made up of Extra-terrestrial IRON and NICKEL and the color they produce are generally from the burning of their components when they enter Earth's atmosphere.
