9th May 2026 — on the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, Kolkata witnessed a historic moment—the oath-taking ceremony of the first BJP government in West Bengal at the famous Brigade Parade Ground.
For the past few days, I had been thinking about photographing such an event. Of course, there were some doubts in my mind, mainly because of some recent violent incidents. But then I thought that for such a grand gathering, the security arrangements would surely be much stronger. Besides, in a vast place like the Maidan, surrounded by tight security, it felt natural to believe that no untoward incident would take place.
So, finally putting all my worries aside, I stepped out early in the morning with my camera. I mostly enjoy photographing people and their emotions, and this time was no different. Here are a few images from the day.
Finally, I would like to add that this post is not intended as any form of political support or agenda. It is purely driven by my love for photography.

Like every year, this year too, the Bengal Photography Institute celebrated the arrival of Bengali New Year with its annual Borshoboron programme on Sunday, 26th April, 2026.

The chief guest of the event was renowned photo artist Shri Rajib De.

The programme began with a condolence tribute to the late Padmashree Raghu Rai.

This was followed by a discussion by Canon on the latest technological developments in mirrorless cameras, where the company’s representative explained in detail the features and advancements of modern Canon mirrorless cameras to the students of the institute.

Finally, Shri Rajib De presented a highly engaging documentary photo exhibition based on his work on Kolkata over the past 15 years. On this occasion, he also gifted his beautiful book, “Kolkata My Endless City”, to everyone at the Bengal Photography Institute.

The entire programme became a success because of the active and enthusiastic participation of the students of the institute.
