First Edition of “YELAM” Held at Pasighat.

Pasighat, 28 September 2025

The Adi students of Arunachal Pradesh University Pasighat, successfully organized the first edition of “YELAM” a celebration dedicated to following the path of the ancestors by showcasing the community’s rich culture and traditional practices.

This inaugural edition was held on the theme “Solung-Lune.”

The event was graced by Shri Tapi Darang, Hon’ble MLA of the 38th Constituency, East Pasighat; Prof. Tomo Riba, Vice Chancellor of Arunachal Pradesh University, Pasighat,

Shri Tobom Dai, former General Secretary of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) and other distinguished guests attended the event.

Shri Tapi Darang appreciated the efforts of the students, particularly the Adi students for successfully hosting YELAM, a festival that highlights the traditional practices of the Adi community.

While addressing the gathering, H’MLA encouraged especially the faculty members and scholars to research on the genealogy of the Tani tribes to further enrich existing literature.

Prof. Tomo Riba, while appreciating the initiative, remarked that along with academic learning, it is equally important to respect and honour the path shown by our ancestors. “Such student-led initiatives contribute immensely to the promotion and preservation of our rich cultural heritage,” Prof. Riba added.

“This is one of the best events I have attended so far, where students themselves are taking the lead in celebrating our culture and traditions. We must preserve our roots, especially in today’s era. It is heartening to witness students keeping our identity and culture alive through such celebrations,” said Shri Tobom Dai.

The festival featured a variety of programmes, including Adi folk songs, a cultural parade, folk dances, and a skit based on an Adi folktale.
The inaugural edition of YELAM concluded with great pomp and gaiety as students performed the traditional Ponung dance.
