Changthang Plateau, Ladakh. 4,000m up, and the ground has nothing left to say.
Kiangs cross it anyway. No hurry. No reason needed.
Then Lungser Kangri rises 6,666m with zero warning. No foothills. Just vertical.
Silence isn't empty. It's this.

The village emptied in 1962. The glacier has been emptying ever since.

Milam sits at the innermost fold of the Kumaon Himalaya, a place most maps still show, but almost nobody reaches anymore. What was once a living trade corridor to Tibet is now sixty stone houses, one faded chorten, and a glacier that nobody watches melt.

We took our drone up the Gori Ganga gorge, over the old trade route, past the ruins, and above the ice. What we found wasn't loss it was permanence. The peaks are still exactly where they've always been.

Some places don't need people to remain whole.
