Heavy Rainfall Exposes Drainage Issues as ISBT Lekhi Faces Waterlogging

ITANAGAR: Continuous heavy rainfall has led to severe waterlogging in the SBT Lekhi area, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters.

Locals allege that the lack of a proper drainage system is one of the main reasons behind the flooding, with rainwater accumulating on roads and in nearby areas.

Residents have expressed concern over recurring waterlogging during the monsoon season, stating that inadequate drainage infrastructure has made the situation worse. Many have urged the concerned authorities to take immediate measures to improve the drainage system and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The waterlogging has disrupted normal movement in the area, highlighting the need for long-term solutions to address drainage and urban flood management issues in SBT Lekhi.

Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan Committee Seeks Changes to Government Order on Key Committees

ITANAGAR: Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan Committee spokesperson Tana Tamar Tara has expressed dissatisfaction with the Arunachal Pradesh Government's recent order concerning the constitution of committees on the Inner Line Permit (ILP), non-APST offspring, and APST re-verification.

Speaking on the issue, Tara stated that the committee is not satisfied with the present order and urged the government to review and modify it by addressing the concerns raised by stakeholders. According to him, several issues require greater clarity and transparency to ensure that the interests of indigenous tribal communities are adequately protected.

He emphasized that matters relating to ILP implementation, non-APST offspring, and APST re-verification are sensitive and directly impact the rights and identity of indigenous tribal people in the state. Therefore, the government should take corrective measures and incorporate necessary changes before proceeding further.

Tara further asserted that transparency, accountability, and the protection of indigenous tribal rights must remain the government's top priority. He warned that unresolved concerns could create confusion and dissatisfaction among the public if not addressed in a timely manner.

The Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan Committee has called on the state government to engage with stakeholders and ensure that the final framework reflects the aspirations and interests of the indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh.

APIYO Announces Third Phase of 24-Hour Capital Bandh from June 5

ITANAGAR, June 3: Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) President Taro Sonam Liyak has announced the third phase of a 24-hour Capital Bandh in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), scheduled from 5:00 AM on June 5, 2026, to 5:00 AM on June 6, 2026.

Announcing the bandh, Liyak stated that APIYO's key demands remain unresolved, particularly regarding the deportation of alleged illegal immigrants and action against an allegedly illegal mosque. He said the organisation has repeatedly submitted memorandums and representations to the state government but has yet to receive a satisfactory response.

Reiterating APIYO's position, Liyak declared, “No Deportation, No Solution; No Demolition, No Solution,” emphasizing that the organisation would continue its democratic movement until concrete action is taken on the issues raised.

According to APIYO, the decision to launch the third phase of the bandh was taken in view of the lack of progress on its demands despite previous protests and appeals to the authorities.

The 24-hour bandh will remain in force across the Itanagar Capital Region from 5:00 AM on June 5 to 5:00 AM on June 6. APIYO has appealed to the public to extend their cooperation and support to make the bandh successful.
