Ahmed Shah Durrani was hell bent on eradicating Sikhs from the earth. In 1746 he launched a genocidal attack which devastated the Sikhs. 18 years later he tried to finish the job with an even more devastating holocaust. 20,000 to 50,000 Sikhs died.

The two major leaders of the defense surrounded the women, children and elderly, every Sikh warrior was injured. Jassa Singh Ahluwalia and Sardar Charat Singh banded together as one force to face the opposition. The latter was the grand father of Ranjit Singh who later became the Maharaj of one of the greatest, most egalitarian empires in history.

Mata Gujari Sahibzada Baba Zorwar Singh ji and Baba Fateh Singh ji have been betrayed by Gangu and arrested by Kotwal Jaani Khan of Morinda at Kheri, the native village of Gangu Ram.
Jaani Khan takes Mata ji and the youngest Sahibzada to Sirhind to the court of Nawab Wazir Khan.
Nawab Wazir Khan was delighted by the capture of Guru Gobind Singh Ji family as he had earlier failed to arrest maharaj themselves at Anandpur Sahib.
Nawab Wazir Khan orders Mata Gujari & Sahibzada to be held in the Thanda Burj .
Thanda Burj (Cold Fort) was a outdoor fort which had a river flowing beneath it. Similar to Air conditioning the cold moisture from the river would bring extreme cold into the fort.
Mata Gujari who was 81 and the Sahibzada 9 and 6 years stay the first night , Mata Ji tries to hold her grandsons close to protect them from the harsh cold. This the first day of atrocities on Mata Gujri and her grandsons ☬

ALA SINGH PARDONED & FINED BY DAL KHALSA – 1765

Ahmed Shah Durrani had conferred the title of 'King' (& Subedari of Sirhind province) on Ala Singh of Patiala who had accepted all this to mark time. But the Singhs (of Dal Khalsa) did not approve of this action of Ala Singh. In a way, it amounted to surrender to a foreign invader. The Singhs bore a grouse against Baba Ala Singh for "bowing before Durrani”.

The Dal Khalsa launched an attack against Ala Singh of Patiala. When the news reached Baba Ala Singh, he sent his vakils/lawyers to the Dal Khalsa with the appeal that for accepting the title of 'king' from the Durrani, he should be fined according to the Sikh tradition, and that his anti-Panth action be ignored. At the same time he also sent some of his army so that no one should commit any excesses on the people of his territory.

When Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia came to know of the whole development, he at once remonstrated with the Khalsa that what was destined to happen had happened. There was no reason for the Singhs to fritter away their energies in mutual conflicts. The Dal Sardars accepted the peace proposal of S. Jassa Singh and they made Baba Ala Singh take Pahul once again, and after charging fine from him pardoned him.
