🇮🇹 The Italian Dream
A photographic journey through Italy’s ancient villages, landscapes, and golden light — inspired by our life in Tuscia and the dream we are building together.

At the old lavatoia of Roccalvecce, tucked into the weathered wall above the ancient fountain, stands a small figure that has quietly watched over village life for generations: Sant’Antonio Abate.

Recognizable by the little pig at his feet, Sant’Antonio is traditionally regarded as the protector of animals and rural communities. His presence here feels especially fitting. This was once a place where villagers came for water, washed their clothes, and brought their animals to drink.

Today, behind glass and surrounded by the beautiful marks of time, he remains there — a modest reminder of the faith, work and everyday life of those who lived in Roccalvecce before us.

Sometimes the smallest details tell the biggest stories. ❤️🇮🇹

Just beside Vignaccia Park, one of those quiet streets in Roccalvecce that asks nothing from you except to slow down and look. Old stone, deep shade, blue sky, and that wonderful feeling that time moves differently here.

At noon today I wandered through the old borgo of Roccalvecce and felt the season beginning to change. The heat is easing, a soft breeze is returning, and above all there is that immense silence.

Roccalvecce is not just a beautiful place to visit. It is a wonderful place to live, to breathe, to be still, and to contemplate.

When Knights Rode Through Roccalvecce.

Today Roccalvecce is a quiet village of stone, narrow streets and sweeping views across the countryside.

But centuries ago, this little borgo had a very different character.

Roccalvecce was a fortified medieval settlement, ruled by noble families and connected to the military struggles that shaped the territory around Viterbo. Its walls and castle were not merely decorative — they belonged to a world in which allegiance, defence and armed service were part of everyday life.

And among the people connected with Roccalvecce was a real knight.

In the fifteenth century, Princivalle Gatti, lord of much of Roccalvecce, was known as a Knight of the Golden Spur — Cavaliere dello Speron d’Oro. He was also a soldier in papal service, and historical accounts associate him with horses and armed retainers.

It is strange to stand here today, surrounded by silence, and imagine another Roccalvecce.

Hooves striking the stone.

Men arriving on horseback.

Torches burning against the walls.

Swords, banners and messengers passing beneath the castle.

The village we see today carries the traces of all those lives beneath its peaceful surface.

Perhaps that is part of the magic of places like Roccalvecce: history never completely disappears. Sometimes you only have to stand still long enough to hear it.

Sometimes I see the photograph before I even take it.

I’ll be driving along, and then—after making sure it’s safe and checking the traffic—I suddenly have to stop. Because there it is: the view, the layers, the colors, the light… that little moment of splendor asking to be captured.

This was one of those moments in Celleno. 🌸⛰️🇮🇹

There is simply so much to see here. Beauty hides around bends, behind walls, across valleys, and in the smallest gardens. Sometimes all you have to do is notice it.

Thank you, Italy, for all this beauty. 💚🤍❤️

Roccalvecce — A Jewel of Alto Lazio

There are places we visit, and there are places that somehow begin to live inside us.

Roccalvecce is one of those places.

A small medieval borgo resting quietly among the hills of Alto Lazio, surrounded by fields, woodland, distant mountains and skies that seem to change their character with every passing hour.

Its beauty is not only found in old stone walls, narrow streets, rooftops glowing beneath the evening sun or views stretching far across the landscape.

Its beauty lives in its people.

In a smile exchanged in the street.
In laughter coming from a piazza.
In a friendly greeting from a doorway.
In stories remembered and shared.
In that unmistakable warmth of a small community where life still has a human rhythm.

Around Roccalvecce, nature never feels far away. Birds circle above the borgo, trees move gently in the wind, wildflowers appear along ancient paths, and the countryside changes its colors with the seasons.

And then there are those quiet moments when you simply stop and look.

You realize that this tiny point on our enormous Earth has its own history, its own character, its own heartbeat.

For centuries, generations have looked across these same hills, walked these streets and watched the same sun disappear behind the horizon.

Today, I am fortunate enough to call this place home.

And the longer I live here, the more I understand that the greatest treasures are not always the places everyone knows.

Sometimes they are small villages resting quietly upon a hill, filled with beauty, nature, history and kind, joyful people.

Roccalvecce.

A little place on Earth.

And a very special one. ❤️🇮🇹

🎨 Sant’Angelo — The Fairytale Village

Just a short distance from Roccalvecce lies Sant’Angelo, a small village that has transformed its streets and houses into an open-air world of imagination.

From above, the murals become even more remarkable. Bright colors appear between ancient roofs, stone walls and green countryside, turning ordinary façades into pages from a storybook.

Sant’Angelo is often known as “Il Paese delle Fiabe” — The Fairytale Village — and looking at it from this perspective, it is easy to understand why.

What I love most is the contrast: old village architecture carrying completely unexpected works of art. Every corner seems to have another character, another story, another surprise waiting to be discovered.

Another beautiful example of how these small villages of Alto Lazio continue to surprise me. ❤️🇮🇹

A Little Jewel in the Tuscia Night ✨

Long after the sun had disappeared, Roccalvecce still seemed to sparkle in the darkness.

Piazza Umberto glowed warmly, Castello Costaguti stood quietly at the heart of the village, the Church of San Paolo Apostolo was softly illuminated, and the narrow streets wrapped themselves around the old borgo in pools of golden light.

From above, Roccalvecce looked almost like a little jewel in the Tuscia night — peaceful, intimate and timeless.

Sometimes a place reveals a completely different character after sunset.

Tonight, Roccalvecce did exactly that.

Today, in our little alley in Roccalvecce, these beautiful flowers opened to the sun.

No grand monument, no famous viewpoint — just a quiet corner, a few pots, an old stone wall, and suddenly this explosion of delicate color.

Moments like this remind me why I appreciate Roccalvecce so much. Beauty here often appears in the smallest places, when you are not even looking for it.

Today I am simply grateful.
Grateful for the flowers.
Grateful for this little village.
Grateful for another day of our Italian Dream. 🇮🇹🌸
