Only one month late 🙂↔️ These are the images I have just submitted for the Open Call “International Photography Award Stanislao Farri”. The deadline was August 9th, but obviously in my head that meant September 9th.
This says a little about me, right?
Anyway, I’ll just leave this post as a reminder to myself. Of what you may ask? I’m gonna be honest. I have no idea.
So… The Homage
Stanislao Farri was a master at reducing the landscape to its most rigorous, absolute geometries. Submitting a black-and-white project that dissects the structural clash between nature and industrialization felt like the most honest tribute to his visual grammar and his lifelong study of our territory.
The project name is “Corrispondenze”.
The intolerance towards the industrial footprint that alters these lands has always driven me to look away, to seek out beauty and focus on that.
For years, I experienced the anthropization of the landscape as a physical aggression from which to seek refuge. Corrispondenze arises from the need to confront this feeling head-on.
One day, I stopped dodging what I felt and decided to pause, to observe, almost clinically, the places where I live, what surrounds me.
I felt the urge to dissect the territory and its entities. In this process, I found a network of hidden correspondences, kindred or opposing parts communicating with each other through shapes and dimensions. I observed the natural element, the artificial infrastructure, and the animal presence begin to respond to one another on a structural level.
This sequence simply documents a new (to me) anatomy of the landscape, raw and essential, which I have finally decided to look straight in the eye.
