Everything starts with how you pack!
As an outdoor photographer, the way I pack and handle my gear matters a lot. I’ve never been a big fan of rigid suitcases, and not because they aren’t sturdy, but because they simply don’t match the way I travel. Opening them “like a book” in a small hotel room or trying to reach something when they’re already wedged in the back of the Jeep or the van, always ends up slowing me down. And on busy travel days, that’s the last thing I need.
Over the last ten years, I’ve used a 90-liter duffel bag for all my photography adventures. It worked, but it never fully matched what I needed. Sometimes 90 liters wasn’t enough, other times it was way too much. And when it was fully loaded, carrying it without wheels wasn’t exactly fun for my back. Great for car travel, not so great for long airport walks. The model I used also lacked proper shoulder straps, just a single, uncomfortable one.
This year, I finally found a setup that actually fits the way I travel, and I’m really happy to start a partnership with , a brand I’ve loved for a long time and that now supports our work.
Travel and landscape photography isn’t only about camera gear. People often underestimate how crucial packing actually is, and it rarely gets the credit it deserves. There’s a lot more to bring on a trip than lenses and bodies, and having the right packing system genuinely makes the whole journey much smoother.
Now I have a set of duffel options that adapt to different scenarios:
- Thule Chasm 40L — my go-to for overnight stays or short weekend trips.
- Thule Chasm 70L — perfect for a few-day trips with simple logistics. Just like the 40L, it converts into a backpack, and the shoulder straps tuck away when I don’t need them.
- Thule Chasm 110L Wheeled Duffel — ideal for longer journeys and larger loads. The sturdy wheels and reinforced back panel handle airports, uneven paths, and rugged terrain while keeping everything protected.
Thanks again to for supporting what I do and for helping me make the travel side of this job a little easier and more sustainable.
