Wild tortoises usually lay 2-12 eggs in spring or early summer by digging a shallow hole in warm, sandy soil, then covering it and leaving the eggs to incubate on their own for 2-3 months. تضع السلاحف البرية بيضها عادة في الربيع أو بداية الصيف، حيث تحفر الأنثى حفرة في تربة رملية دافئة وتضع فيها 2-12 بيضة ثم تغطيها وتتركها لتفقس وحدها بعد 2-3 أشهر.
