Justin Pasutto and I took the kids to one of our favourite West Coast destinations, Pacific Sands Beach Resort in Tofino, for one last summer trip before back to school, and it was exactly what we needed. It’s truly our happy place. We surfed (my first time in 20 years!!!), had yummy dinners in our cabin and at SHELTER Restaurant, and had a sauna + float family day at TOFINO BOATING CO..

Pacific Sands Beach Resort is hands-down my top recommendation on where to stay in Tofino. I’ve been coming to this exact resort for over 20 years! We’ve stayed here many times over the years, and usually rent the cabin called the Sunset House at Rosie Bay.... it is SO amazing. It comfortably sleeps 10, so there’s a lot of room for fun in that house!!! The view of the sunset definitely lives up to the name, and waking up to the sound of waves was so relaxing. It’s so cozy, perfect for quality time with loved ones. Tofino is one of my favourite places to visit, and the best part is... there’s no bad season to go!!! The waves are great year-round, and the town is just as amazing in the colder months as it is in summer. Whether you like to hunker down inside with loved ones or get out and enjoy the waves, there’s something for everyone.

When your tomato plant absolutely will NOT stop producing... you make sun-dried tomatoes 🍅 Here’s how I do it (spoiler alert: it’s super easy) 👉

Step 1: Pick your tomatoes straight off the vine and cut them in half.

I didn’t wash or dry them, I literally just picked them out of the garden and popped them in a bowl.

Cutting them in half lengthwise keeps more of the seeds intact, helps them dry more evenly, and holds them together better if you’re putting them in a jar later.

Step 2: Sprinkle with a little sea salt + fresh oregano and basil from the garden.

Step 3: During the day, let them sit outside in the sun.

Step 4: Then at night, bring them inside and put them in the oven... but don’t turn it on. Just let them hang out in there. I repeated this for 4 days.

After about 4 days I had perfect sun-dried tomatoes 😍 (mine were also slightly smoked because of the fires.) I know there’s an actual oven method to making these, but haven’t tried it yet, this way works well for me!

Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a week, OR jar them covered in olive oil for a couple months (that oil becomes SO good too)

There are so many things you can make with sundried tomatoes, like this pasta I whipped up with some feta and fresh basil. Nothing beats using every last tomato your garden gives you. Who else is harvesting like crazy right now too? 🍅

And just like that, it’s September. And here is that cliché post asking where time went where summer went. But it’s true… At one point it felt so long and then it was just over. Highlights of the summer were gardening, the new house build, my new bike & Seeing family from Northern Alberta I hadn’t seen for so long… this was my summer of saying no. We didn’t overcommit ourselves. We slept in a lot. We didn’t entertain as much as we usually do. We didn’t travel outside of BC. We stayed local we stayed home…. Of course it has me asking myself if I did enough if we made enough memories, yada yada yada. But all of that does come at a cost. And I’m proud that we just took it easy. We’ve got one more trip to close out the summer - and then I look forward to Annie’s birthday, decorating for Halloween… Basically… Merry Christmas! Ahhhahahaa 😂😂😂🍂🎃🙌🏼👻🎄🎅⏰⏳

Are the tomatoes taking over your garden? Me too! 🍅 Here’s what to do with them: make this simple, easy, delicious homemade pasta sauce. Save this to make this weekend! 👇

Roasted Tomato Pasta Sauce

Ingredients:
• 5 cups cherry/roma tomatoes
• 1/2 onion, cut into thick wedges
• 6-8 cloves garlic, peeled
• 1/4 cup olive oil
• 1 tsp dried oregano (or 1 tbsp fresh)
• 1 tsp salt, few grinds pepper
• A couple basil sprigs

Instructions:
• Add everything to a sheet pan and roast at 400°F for 30-35 min.
• Once everything is roasted, add it all into a blender or food processor with another 2 tbsp olive oil and blend till smooth.
• Next, pour the mixture into a pot with: 1/4 cup red w**e, 1 Parmesan rind (or 1/2 cup grated), 2 tsp red w**e vinegar, 1/2 cup fresh basil, torn, added at the very end off the heat
• Simmer uncovered for 20-25 min.
• Add salt and pepper to taste after the Parm (it’s salty already!)

Makes about 3 cups, enough for a pound of pasta 🍝

Having a moment while watering my flowers this morning. It’s been a long time since I’ve cried tears like this.

I put on Dolly this morning and occurred to me just how fast life is moving.

My parents are getting older.
Our grandma is gone.
The kids are getting so old.
Life just flies by so fast.

Sometimes we just get caught up in the silliest things. We get stuck in our routines, stuck in our ways.

But I often miss old Jilly that had less responsibility, less on her plate, more carefree, footloose, and fancy free.

I miss being a kid at an 80s party at my grandparents
house.

It’s funny how life sneaks up on you like that. Between building a life with Justin Pasutto, having babies, running businesses, the never-ending to-do list... somewhere in there, I stopped doing the thing that used to make me feel like me. Not because I decided to. It just... happened. Slowly. Quietly. Until one day I looked up and realized how long it had been. Getting back into gardening this summer has brought me so much joy. Going down into the garden each morning to check on my plants has quickly become my favourite part of the day.

Can anyone else relate? If there’s something you used to love that’s fallen off your radar... take this as your sign to go find it again. You won’t regret it.

Hi hun. Good morning….. i’m not gonna lie… I forgot it was our anniversary this morning. I mean, I knew it was coming up. But when I woke up this morning I forgot. It was only when your mom texted me that I remembered. 😬😂🥴

But it’s not because I didn’t care.

It’s because our love, our story, wasn’t the typical meet, get married a few years later, and the one year anniversary is this huge deal. We’ve already lived a full life. A full, beautiful life.

Going through pictures, looking at everything we’ve done… travelling the world, pregnancies, our dog and then losing him, happy times, sad times, scary times, babies, our own TV show, career changes, building a house and doing it all on TV. A global pandemic. Losing our grandma’s Taking care of each other, taking care of our kids, taking care of our parents. Travelling with our parents. Buying the farm, renovating that house, the farm burning down, building our dream wedding venue. Getting re-engaged after I threw my ring and ran away. All the things It’s been a full life.

And our wedding day last year was THE best week of my whole life. SUCH A DREAM. More perfect than I could have ever imagined… but I don’t know if there’s ONE day that can sum up our whole big beautiful relationship. There isn’t one, because we lived it for 13 years before that.

So here’s to the love, the excitement, the drama 😂, the changes, the decisions, the accomplishments… for the next how many years we live…. I know it’s going to be wild, entertaining fun exhilarating just the way I like it.

Happy anniversary. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We spent last week touring around Whistler and Vancouver, and I kept having the same thought on repeat... we are so lucky to call Canada our home. Mountains in the morning, ocean by the afternoon... so much beauty at our fingertips. What a great little week spent with family. 🏔️🫶🏼🌊🚲🏖️🐾

Steph and Jesse are two of my favourite humans on this earth. Salt of the earth people. Back in July, we hosted their wedding at our farm, and made memories that will last a lifetime. 🤍🥹

We spent the days leading up to the wedding all together as a family. Steph, her girlfriends, my cousins, my aunties, Justin, everybody... setting it all up, decorating, laughing, pitching in wherever we could. Two of the most gorgeous days. The weather was perfect. My heart was so full.

And getting to be reunited with family I hadn’t seen in years, in the middle of all of it, I had actual tears of happiness rolling down my cheeks. Steph was the most stunning bride.
Thank you Apollo Event Rentals for the most beautiful tent, and Simply Floral for florals that took everyone’s breath away. 🤍
