Well, after nearly 3 years of being careful, Covid finally found our house. The Little Man came down with symptoms on Tuesday (he’s been thrice vaxxed). We did our best to quarantine at home—eating separately, wearing masks, etc.—but it can be a challenge with a 9-year-old that doesn’t want to be alone all day.

Anyway, 2 days later I started showing symptoms too. The boy is already over it. He had mild symptoms for a day. I’ve got it worse: throat, nose, fever, and lower back pain. And that’s having just finished my Omicron booster 2 weeks ago 🤷🏻‍♂️

I know most people have already had their run-ins with it already, but this is the worst I’ve felt in a long time. I can’t imagine what it would be like if I hadn’t been vaccinated!

恐竜の肋骨と背骨

I spent most of the day in the yard, besides coming in for an insufficient 3 cups of coffee. Got the fire circle cleared out and ready to go. Trimmed back the remaining hydrangea and ripped out a year’s worth of vines and thorny weeds, too. Then it was more thorns, pruning back the rose bushes. After that, using the new leaf blower to clean out our parking spaces. Finished up by wrestling out some lantana trying to take over in the backyard.

We put out the Christmas lights yesterday, but it’s been so warm lately that the big, slow-droning striped mosquitoes are still about.

And now it’s time for the season finale of !

Voted one of the top 3 night views in Japan for years, we finally got up to see it. Since we’ve already been to Mt Inasa in Nagasaki (Kyushu has 2/3 of the best), that only leaves Hokkaido.
