Statue of Daikannon - a magnificent piece of art on the Kamasaki Penninsula, in Kamaishi City – Iwate Prefecture, overlooking the Kamaishi Bay and the Pacific Ocean. This statue was erected in the early 1970 as a symbol of world peace. The prayers here are for world peace and victims of natural disasters caused by the ocean. Standing tall at 48.5-m, the structure offers a therapeutic course around a spiral staircase taking you in a journey of sacredness and spirituality. There is a doorway at the top-most floor, taking you to an observatory deck which offers unobstructed views of surrounding mountains, the Pacific Ocean, and the city of Kamaishi. At the foot of the Daikannon is the Lover’s Sanctuary. An excellent spot for lovers, and those seeking to aspire love relationships in future. You’ll find a sculpture of two seagulls embedded around a heart – symbolizing the union and love. It is a beautiful destination in the Kamaishi locality to appreciate creation – nature, love, and spirituality!
