Severe heat is affecting wide areas across Japan today, July 21, as temperatures continue to soar from Kyushu to the Tohoku region. Dangerously high temperatures well above average are expected, particularly in inland parts of Tokai and Kanto, marking the country’s first extreme heat day of the year exceeding 40°C. Peak temperatures are projected to reach 41°C in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, and 40°C in Nagoya City and Tajimi City, while central Tokyo is expected to hit 36°C.
In response to the escalating danger, Japan’s authorities have issued Heat Alert warnings for 42 prefectures-the highest total recorded so far this year. Early symptoms of heatstroke include dizziness, muscle cramps, and excessive fatigue, which can progress to severe headaches and confusion if unaddressed. Officials are urging the public to exercise maximum caution by avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities during peak hours and maintaining air conditioning day and night.
