September 27th NUGGETS OF DESTINY

Know How to Approach God as a Friend

"Then Jesus said to them, 'Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, "Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him" (Luke 11:5-6).

Besides being sons and daughters of God, we can become His friends. The Lord Jesus exemplified the genuine love of a friend by laying down His life for us (John 15:12-13). In Luke 11:5-8, Jesus presents a scenario where a man goes to the house of his friend at midnight to ask for bread because he had received a visitor and needed something to lay on the table for him.
From this account, we learn that we can approach God not just for our own needs but also for those of others.

Our prayers are not solely for our benefits. The people God describes as friends are those who stand in the gap for others. He calls Abraham His
friend. He states that He could not destroy S***m and Gomorrah without letting Abraham know of His plan. Abraham persistently interceded for the city to be spared although there were no people who were righteous. As
believers, we can approach God on behalf of our families, neighbours, communities and nations. The love of God and our neighbours should
motivate us to seek Him for the needs of our people because He is the Friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Prayer for the Day: Heavenly Father, thank you for the privilege of approaching you as a friend. Help me intercede on behalf of others trusting in your power and willingness to help in Jesus' name. Amen.

LISTEN MORE THAN YOU TALK

*"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this:* *Everyone should be quick*
*to listen, slow to speak and* *slow to become angry"*
*(James 1:19).*

Effective communication is key in relationships. As we walk with Christ, He requires us to abide by His word and to exercise self-control and regulation in our speech. We should learn how to communicate without sinning with the
tongue. Apostle James, through wisdom as an elder admonished followers of Jesus to control their tongues so that they could only speak what is profitable and necessary. He instructs believers to emulate God by being slow to anger. James 3:1-12 underpins the significance of the words we speak. We gauge spiritual maturity through the way a person speaks. Unfortunately, many people are ignorant of what God's word says on the use of the tongue, and this makes them ensnare themselves and others through careless speech.

Small as it is, the tongue determines a person's success or failure in life. Many people are failures because of the limitations they impose on themselves through careless speech. Our tongues should be used for creative purposes and not for destruction: we should seek divine wisdom on how to use them to build our lives and those of others. To be an effective or fruitful Christian, we ought to do less speaking but more listening.

Prayer for the Day: Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to listen more than I speak so as I can be keen to hear your voice and not sin against You in the multitude of my words. Amen.

*STRIVE TO KNOW THE LORD INTIMATELY*

*"...... I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day"*
*(2 Timothy 1:12b).*

An intimate knowledge of God helps us attain our destinies. This implies knowing who He is, what He can do as well as His ways. One of the most assuring attributes is His ability to guard what we entrust to Him until the day He will be manifested in His full glory. His word contains the revelation of the need to walk in the fullness of His will for our lives.

When we know God intimately, we become confident and walk in obedience to His word. Our lives are guided by the truth of His word and covered by His presence. With each step, the assurance grows and the cares of this world
dissipate. Forgiveness flows effortlessly, prayer becomes effective and we are able to easily align ourselves with God's ways. Our future becomes secure and we live for God's glory.

Walking on this path keeps us safe from the enemy. Our temporal and eternal
destinies are secure in Christ as we grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The word of God assures us that those who know the Lord shall be strong and do great exploits (Daniel 11:32b).

*Having little or wrong knowledge about God hinders most people from fulfilling His purposes in their lives.*

Prayer for the Day: Heavenly Father, I entrust my life, dreams and fears to you. Help me to rest assured that you are able. Amen.

*GOD CAN TURN CURSES INTO BLESSINGS*

*However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you"*
*(Deuteronomy 23:5).*

God is sovereign and He can turn any curse into a blessing. His power is
unlimited and His purposes cannot be thwarted, What He has blessed no man can curse, and the door he has opened no man can shut. Balak summoned Balaam commanding him to utter curses to Israel, with the intention of weakening and preventing her from fulfilling God's purpose and attaining her destiny. God's power prevailed and the curses turned into blessings. He confirmed that what God has blessed can never be cursed.

Likewise, we live in a world inhabited by enemies who desire and work for our downfall. Some people cast spells, use magic arts and ensnare God's people by their words. God opposes such and declares, "I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds; I will tear them from your arms; I will set free the people that you ensnare like birds"
(Ezekiel 13:20).

As we serve God, we need not fear the evil words people speak against us to
weaken us. As we walk in righteousness and align ourselves with God's will, He will shield us from all the curses thrown to us, and we will be showered with His blessings.

Further Reading: Ezekiel 13:1-23; Isaiah 54:17
Prayer for the Day: Today in the name of Jesus Christ, I overturn all evil words spoken against my destiny. I walk in freedom because the Lord loves me and has showered me with blessings, Amen.

*WEDNESDAY,30TH OCTOBER 2024*

*CONFRONT ALL FORCES OF DARKNESS*

*1 John 3:8*
*The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devilโ€™s work.*

Sin is often used by the devil to ensnare God's people hindering them from serving God's purpose. God detests sin as it contradicts His holy nature. He has already done everything He will ever need to do to save us and empower us to overcome all the evil in the world. Jesus' life, death and resurrection made room from us to walk in the dominion God intended from the beginning.

Those who reject the Lordship of Jesus and choose to live outside His redemptive plan belong to the devil. They do Satan's will and follow in his rebellion against God. The Scriptures say that severe judgement awaits them as God will condemn His enemies.

Further reading: Galatians 5:19-21; Mathew 5:13-16
Prayer: Today, I resist the devil and all his works in Jesus'Name,Amen.

*PLUNDER THE ENEMY BY BINDING THE STRONG MAN*

*Matthew 12:29*
*"Or again, how can anyone enter a strong manโ€™s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.*

God has called us to be spiritual soldiers. We have the right to exercise the power He has delegated to us which sets the captives free, heals the sick, delivers the oppressed and encourages the downcast through the power of His word. Through the guidance of His Spirit,we can ensure that only the will of God is done in our lives as we bind all powers of darkness that are determined to derail us from serving God's purpose and attaining our destinies.

Reading: Mathew 17:21; Luke 10:19
Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant us discernment to identify the works of darkness in our lives and bind them,so that we may walk in the freedom that Christ purchased for us and when He died on the cross. Amen.

*TURNING IMPOSSIBILITIES INTO REALITY*

*1 Samuel 1:20*
*So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, "Because I asked the LORD for him."*

Walking successfully with God demands that one gets to know the formulae He works with. Doing this can help us turn impossibilities into possibilities. Hannah was aware of the power of vows in walking with God. She was distressed for many years because if childlessness. In the midst of her distress, she knelt down and solemnly pledged that if she was to be blessed with a child, she would give him over to the Lord's service. God's acceptance of her pledge created a Conducive environment for the impossible to become a reality. Our lives can be altered profoundly through making vows to God. Hannah made a fervent petition to God ( 1 Samuel 1:9-11). Her solemn oath was more than just words; it was legally enforceable promise.

Further reading: Psalm 66:13-14
Prayer: Dear Lord, grant us wisdom to understand the place of vows so that we can walk in supernatural,Amen.

*HONOURING VOWS IS POWERFUL*

*Judges 11:30-31*
*And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD: "If you give the Ammonites into my hands, whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the LORDโ€™s, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering."*

Our vows mirror our devotion and trust in God. They are an avenue God uses to grow our faith. We should not regard our vows as a burden but as avenues of entering higher levels of walking with God. Making vows and observing the discipline of honouring them however demanding they might be can fortify our bond with God.

Reading: Psalm 61:8
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me grasp the significance of honouring my vows to you. Strengthen me to fulfill the vows I make to you,I. Jesus' Name. Amen.
