"Kumbe si biashara ilikuwa mbaya... nilikuwa naibiwa bila kujua!"
Happy New Month, fellow business owners! 🎉
Let me tell you a story about Omondi. (if you own a garage, car wash or workshop, you might see yourself in it.)
Omondi owns a busy garage in Ruiru. Every morning the place was alive. Cars lined up outside, mechanics were busy under bonnets, customers kept walking in, and the workshop looked like it was making serious money. To anyone passing by, it was a successful business.
But every evening, Omondi would go home with the same question in his mind.
"Leo tumefanya kazi mingi... lakini pesa imeenda wapi?"
At first, he blamed the economy. Then he blamed competition. He even thought maybe customers had reduced. Yet every day the garage was full.
One day a customer came back asking for a receipt after paying two days earlier. There was no record of the payment. The mechanic insisted the customer had paid the manager. The manager claimed the customer hadn't paid at all. The customer was angry, and Omondi ended up doing the job for free just to protect his reputation.
A few days later, he sent someone to buy brake pads, only to discover later that the same brake pads were already in the store. Nobody knew they were there because stock was never updated. Money kept leaving the business buying parts that were already available.
Then came the biggest shock. A loyal customer casually mentioned, "Boss, nilikuwa nimelipa cash jana..." Yet there was no money in the cash box and no record in the notebook. Everyone had an explanation, but nobody had proof.
That was the day Omondi realised he wasn't losing business because customers weren't coming. He was losing business because he had no visibility. His garage was running on trust instead of facts.
A friend introduced him to Garisoul Systems. At first he thought it was just another expensive computer program. But after seeing a demonstration, he decided to give it a chance.
Within the first month, everything changed.
Every vehicle entering the garage was registered. Every job card was assigned to a technician. Every spare part issued from the store was recorded. Every customer payment generated a receipt. Every transaction left a digital trail. Suddenly, excuses disappeared because the system kept the facts.
When Omondi reviewed his reports after a few weeks, he nearly fell off his chair.
He discovered that poor stock control, forgotten payments, duplicate purchases and unrecorded cash had been costing his business an average of KES 10,000 every single day. That's nearly KES 300,000 every month quietly disappearing—not because the garage lacked customers, but because the business lacked control.
Today, Omondi doesn't spend his evenings wondering where the money went. He opens his phone and sees exactly how many vehicles were serviced, which technician worked on each vehicle, what parts were used, how much money was collected and what stock remains in the store. Even when he's away from the garage, his business keeps talking to him.
His only regret?
"Ningejua hii system miaka mbili zilizopita. The amount of money I have unknowingly lost could have bought me another workshop."
The truth is, many Kenyan garage owners don't have a customer problem—they have a visibility problem. If you can't confidently answer what came in, what went out, who handled it, and where the money is, then your business is depending on luck instead of systems.
This July, don't just work harder. Work smarter.
Garisoul Systems helps garages, workshops, car washes and automotive businesses take control of their operations through digital job cards, inventory management, customer records, invoicing, payments, reporting and multi-branch management—all in one powerful platform.
Because at the end of the day, you can't manage what you can't see.
