Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops

Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops Non-profit association based in Siem Reap supporting Asian photographers & visual artists since 2005. Our programmes are firmly non-commercial and egalitarian.

The Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops (APFW) was launched in 2005 as a non-profit organisation with a key purpose: to offer photographers in Asia affordable and accessible opportunities for professional development and growth. We have remained committed to this mission over the years, while adapting to the evolving needs of our community and the changing landscape of photography. Based in Siem Rea

p, Cambodia, the APFW is Southeast Asia’s oldest established international photography event. Our regular annual programme consists of the Angkor Photo Workshops for Asian photographers and the Angkor Photo Festival, which features exhibitions, projection screenings, talks and an array of other activities to engage visitors and the general public. At APFW, we have never just been about photography – what is important is how it can help us engage with the real world in a useful, meaningful manner. We embrace explorations and experimentation, potentially opening up new approaches to the medium. Across our activities, we assume an autonomous framework to teaching and discussing photography to encourage the development of each individual's unique artistic voice and vision.

Our support campaign is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who stepped in and stepped up - through contributions, sharing, encouragement, and care.

Together, we reached 77% of our goal. For the first time, the workshops were sustained entirely by community support. That matters to us, and it speaks to the strength and commitment of the people who believe in this work. 💪🙏

Thank you to everyone who stood with us - and to those who continue to carry this space forward beyond these ten days.

Onward.

We’re now in the final stretch of our support campaign for the 21st Angkor Photo Workshops, with €2,267 remaining to close the gap.

If you’ve been considering supporting us, this is the final window before we close on Saturday morning (28 Feb). A limited number of prints and one‑to‑one mentor review sessions are still available.

This is the first year the programme has been fully sustained by our community - a powerful reminder that independent, artist‑led spaces can be carried forward by the people who believe in them.

We owe our thanks and gratitude to the many people and organisations who made this edition possible. ❤️

To Footprint Cafes - Siem Reap, our Workshop Centre sponsor - and especially their generous and ever‑patient staff - thank you for welcoming us so fully into your space and keeping us fed and caffeinated.

To our mentors - Antoine, Uma, Veejay, Sean - for your time, rigour, honesty, and care.

To our guest speakers, David, Claudi and Yannick from the National Geographic Society , thank you for sharing your expertise so openly.

To Cambodian Centre for Documentary Photography , for a thoughtful and energising workshop collaboration that we hope will continue.

To Eunice from Objectifs - Centre for Photography and Film who wins Volunteer of the Year, hands down, no contest! (Please come back! 🙏🏻)

To the many Cambodian alumni who helped quietly behind the scenes - Bora, Sereyrath, and Ranuth - your support means more than we can say.

To our friends at Snakebite Relief Program ស្នេកបៃ រីលីហ្វ ប្រូក្រាម, for standing with us.

And to Bambu Stage Cambodia, for generously hosting our showcase evening.

Finally, to our participants - for giving your all, for your courage and tenacity, and for all the magic. ✨

And to everyone who has supported our fundraising campaign - thank you for helping us carry this edition across the line.

It takes many people to hold a space like this. We’re grateful to each of you.

“The workshop gave me not only practical guidance but also a rare sense of belonging.” - Nhan Tran, 20th Angkor Photo Workshops (2025)

Ten intense days of making, questioning, listening, connecting, and growing.

The 21st Angkor Photo Workshops have come to a close. Participants are back home, the mentors are onto their next projects, and we are collectively beginning to process what these days held.

The workshops may be over, but the work continues.

Sustaining a space like this extends beyond the ten days we gather.

Behind the scenes, we are still working to close the final part of the budget for this edition.

Thanks to our supporters, we’ve come a long way — and remain just over 65% toward our €7.5k goal.

We’ll be keeping this campaign open until Saturday morning, 28 February, before closing it.

If you believe in sustaining non‑commercial, artist‑led spaces like this, we would deeply appreciate your support.

It’s a wrap.

The 21st Angkor Photo Workshops have come to a close - ten intense days of making, exploring, experimenting, trying, and forging new connections with new friends. We will be sharing more glimpses soon, but for now, here are the newest additions to our workshop alumni!

When we first launched our support campaign, we shared that we needed between €5–10k to close the final part of our budget responsibly.

To give clearer direction, we’re now working toward a midpoint goal of €7.5k. The workshops may have ended, but sustaining this space continues beyond these 10 days.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we've been carried just over 65% of our goal! We're close, but not there yet, and we'd like to keep the campaign open a little longer to try to close the remaining gap.

If you’ve been watching from afar and meaning to step in, we would appreciate your help!

Months of planning and 7 days of intense teaching, photography, and critique have culminated into these 8 student works that we proudly present alongside the participants of Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops tomorrow Saturday, February. 7th, 7:30pm at Bambu Stage Cambodia Stage, in Siem Reap.

Our worshop titled “When I’m Gone” explores the concepts of “presence” and “absence” and how this affects our understanding of identity, with a special focus on the recent Thai-Cambodian war and displaced peoples, that undoubtedly reshapes the common Cambodian experiences and history.

A special thank you goes out to Build Bright University, Siem Reap Campus for sponsoring the venue for our workshop.

Almost at the halfway mark of the Angkor Photo Workshops, and everyone is deep in it — thinking, making, questioning, refining. It’s been a full few days, and even fuller ones to come.

We’re incredibly grateful to Footprints Café, our Workshop Centre, for being such a generous and delicious home for us - feeding bodies and spirits, and holding space for long days of conversation and practice. Thank you for taking such good care of us. ❤️

It’s been one week since we opened our support campaign, and we’ve been carried here by the generosity of 42 people so far. We’re very close to the halfway point, and would love to see if we can keep this momentum going.
