A Legacy of Faith & Restoration: George Steuart & Co. 191st Founder’s Day Service

Looking back at a monumental evening of thanksgiving, worship, and historical preservation held on Thursday, 14th August 2026 at St. Peter’s Church, Colombo Fort—one of the oldest continuously functioning churches in Colombo. Hosted by George Steuart & Company Limited, the service marked their 191st Founder’s Day while celebrating a major milestone: the official announcement of the commencement of the restoration of St. Peter’s Church.

Majestic Harmony & Sacred Worship
The service brought together an inspiring evening of worship that filled the historic sanctuary:

Choir in Attendance: The Music Ministry Choir led the congregation with a powerful and moving selection of sacred music.

Direction & Accompaniment: In the absence of Ishan de Lanerolle, the choir was expertly directed by Rohan de Lanerolle, masterfully accompanied by Neranjan De Silva at the organ.

Preserving History & Community Partnership
The occasion brought together distinguished guests, including British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick and New Zealand High Commissioner David Pine, alongside George Steuart Group leadership, team members, and well-wishers.

In a powerful commitment to Sri Lankan heritage, George Steuart joined hands with The De Lanerolle Brothers to expand longstanding restoration efforts for St. Peter’s Church, aiming to preserve its rich historical and cultural legacy for future generations.

On Sunday, July 19th, 2026, the community gathered once again at the historic St. Michael’s Church, Polwatte, to honor the Feast of Saint Margaret of Antioch—Virgin, Martyr, and Defender of the Faith.

Marking the second consecutive year that the Music Ministry Choir has had the privilege of lifting their voices for this feast day, the service was held following a warm invitation from Sister Chandrani Peiris, Sister Superior, and the sisters of St. Margaret’s Convent.

Spiritual Reflection & Fellowship
The service was a profound journey of worship, legacy, and community:

The Officiant & Word: The service was officiated by The Right Reverend Dhiloraj Canagasabey, Bishop Emeritus, with a moving reflection delivered by Ven. Christopher Balraj, drawing on St. Margaret’s enduring example of unwavering faith and courage.

A Shared Heritage: The occasion highlighted the deep historical and spiritual bonds connecting St. Margaret’s Convent, St. Michael’s Church, and Bishop’s College, honoring a long tradition of empowering young women through faith and education.

Community Fellowship: Following the service, the congregation gathered opposite the church at St. Margaret's Convent for a time of fellowship and light refreshments.

Majestic Sacred Music
The worship was brought to life by a powerful musical collaboration that filled the sanctuary:

Combined Choirs: The soaring harmonies of The Chapel Choir of Bishop’s College and The Music Ministry Choir united to create an unforgettable atmosphere of praise.

Bringing Story & Purpose Home: The Sri Lanka Launch of ‘Labyrinth of Dreams’
Literature, meaningful conversation, and social impact came together at the Rooftop Ballroom of the Taj Samudra, Colombo, for the official Sri Lankan launch of Labyrinth of Dreams by Sri Lankan-born Canadian author Nadee Fernando O'Driscoll.

Overlooking the Indian Ocean, readers, literary enthusiasts, and supporters gathered for an extraordinary morning that celebrated a powerful new literary voice while supporting Women in Need (WIN).

A Story That Touches Hearts
Inspired by true events, Labyrinth of Dreams tells the compelling story of Mala, who at 53 discovers that she was adopted. What unfolds is a deeply moving exploration of identity, family secrets, resilience, and self-discovery.

The novel courageously confronts themes of social stigma, abuse, colourism, and the harmful impact of outdated societal expectations on women and families. Its universal resonance earned it the 2025 International Impact Book Award in the Women's Fiction – Feminine Perspectives category.

A Cause That Changes Lives
Transforming the traditional book launch into something far more impactful, the event served as a major awareness and fundraising initiative. Organized in direct partnership with Women in Need (WIN), Rs. 1,000 from every ticket and book sold was donated directly to support the organization's essential work empowering women and supporting survivors of violence across Sri Lanka.

Event Highlights & Moments
Guided Conversation: Media personality Savithri Rodrigo skillfully moderated the morning's program, guiding an insightful, candid dialogue with Nadee and guest panelists who generously donated their time and expertise.

Driven by Vision: The success of the event was a testament to a passionate collective effort, spearheaded by Ishan de Lannerolle, who served as the mastermind and key driving force bringing the project to life.

Floral Elegance: Official floral decor sponsor Petals by Pinky (led by Founder Rajitha Thennakoon) adorned the rooftop venue with exquisite floral styling, standing proudly as a women-led business supporting women's dignity and social justice.

Warmth & Hospitality: Guests enjoyed a carefully curated high tea set against sweeping ocean views, creating a welcoming atmosphere where traditions evolved into purpose-driven celebration.

"Bringing this story home was a dream come true... Together, we made a difference and set a trend that emphasizes the importance of purpose in our celebrations." — Nadee Fernando O'Driscoll

An Evening of Reflection, Gratitude & Hope: Father’s Day Service 2026
Here is a look back at a beautiful and deeply moving evening as we celebrated the fathers, father figures, and mentors who shape our lives.

The Music Ministry Choir gathered at St. Paul's Church, Kynsey Road, on Sunday, June 21st, to host a special Father's Day service. The sanctuary was filled with families coming together in a powerful spirit of community, worship, and giving.

A Divine Musical and Spiritual Experience
The congregation was treated to an exceptional evening of sacred music and thought-provoking ministry:

The Music & Direction: Under the direction of Ishan De Lanerolle and accompanied by the masterful Neranjan de Silva at the Organ, the choir's soaring harmonies provided a majestic backdrop for worship.

A Powerful Generational Anthem: In what was an especially moving highlight of the service, a special rendition of "The Holy City" was performed, uniquely featuring the fathers and sons within the choir. This extraordinarily powerful performance featured former members of the acclaimed group, The Revelations, who currently sing in the Music Ministry Choir—including the De Lanerolle Brothers. Their combined vocal depth created an unforgettable moment of musical unity.

The Message: A beautiful spiritual reflection was delivered by Dr. Anojana Jayaseelan Fernandopulle, offering words of comfort, encouragement, and appreciation for the vital role fathers play in guiding families and society.

Heartwarming Gestures & Radical Generosity
The true heartbeat of the service lay in two incredibly touching initiatives that honored the congregation and supported local communities:

Tokens of Honor: Every father in attendance was presented with a fresh rose, a beautiful token of appreciation generously donated by Petals by Pinky.

The Spirit of Friendship: In a profoundly moving gesture, the children of St. John's Home in Moratuwa made and donated handmade friendship bands for the fathers. This selfless act of love from the orphans deeply touched the hearts of many in the audience.

A Wave of Support: Moved by the children's kindness, the congregation responded with overwhelming generosity, raising a total of Rs. 100,000 via direct donations to support St. John's Home.

Restoring a Historic Sanctuary
The spirit of stewardship extended to the venue itself. The service successfully raised vital funds dedicated to St. Paul's Church, specifically to help fund the urgent refurbishment of the church roof, which has fallen into a state of severe disrepair.

Thank you to everyone who attended, performed, and gave so open-heartedly to make this Father's Day an unforgettable celebration of love and community.

An Evening of Reflection, Gratitude, and Hope: The 2026 Mother’s Day Service
On Sunday, May 10th, 2026, The Chapel of the Hope of the World at Ladies' College became a sanctuary of shared memory and deep emotion. The Music Ministries Choir hosted its annual Mother’s Day service, delivering a profoundly moving evening that balanced sacred music with quiet moments of gratitude, honor, and hope.

For everyone in attendance, the service offered a rare space to pause and celebrate the profound impact of mothers and mother figures, both present and departed.

A Divine Musical Collaboration
The spiritual and emotional anchor of the evening was, undisputedly, the music. Under the precise and sensitive direction of Ishan de Lanerolle, the Music Ministries Choir filled the historic chapel with soaring harmonies that resonated deeply with the congregation.

The choral performance was beautifully elevated by the masterful accompaniment of Neranjan de Silva at the organ. The collaboration between the choir, the organ, and the natural acoustics of the chapel created an atmosphere that felt both grand and intimately sacred.

A Surprise Duet: "The Prayer"
The musical highlight of the evening came as a beautiful surprise for the congregation. In a standout moment of artistic unity, Rohan de Lanerolle joined his brother Ishan for a special performance of "The Prayer." The blend of their distinct voices filling the chapel added an unforgettable layer of warmth and gravity to an already exceptional evening of music.

Words of Comfort and Remembrance
Beyond the music, the congregation was treated to a powerful and timely Mother’s Day message delivered by Anushka Abhayaratne. Her words touched on the multifaceted nature of motherhood—celebrating the joy of maternal love while gently acknowledging the quiet grief that many carry on this day.

This theme of remembrance was brought to life in one of the service's most poignant moments: the lighting of candles. As tiny flames illuminated the chapel, it served as a quiet, collective tribute to the lasting legacy of mothers who are no longer with us, but whose light continues to guide our lives.

Tokens of Gratitude
The evening concluded on a note of tangible appreciation. In a beautiful gesture of community and honor, every mother in the congregation was presented with a fresh rose—a special token of gratitude generously sponsored by Petals By Pinky. Holding these flowers under the warm glow of the chapel, the congregation left with a renewed sense of comfort, hope, and deep-seated gratitude for the women who shape our world.
