Why This Lens Has TWO Eyes ποΈποΈ
π Inside a dual fisheye VR lens. Two complete optical systems sit side by side and have to land two 180Β° images onto a single sensor. The problem: the front elements are 60mm apart and the sensor is only 36mm wide. Here's how they solved it π
βͺ Two fisheye domes β each one captures a full 180Β° view, one per eye
π’ Glass prisms β fold the light 45Β° sideways, then 45Β° down again
β« Twin apertures β each side gets its own iris, closing independently
π© UD elements β kill colour fringing before the image lands
π΅ Sensor plane β two image circles, side by side, both upside down
π‘ The prisms aren't there to focus anything. They're a periscope. Without them the two light paths stay 60mm apart and miss the sensor completely β the entire lens exists because of that fold.
π€― And both images land inverted. Flipping the sensor 180Β° fixes the orientation and swaps left/right back into the correct eyes. One flip, two problems solved.
