Yes yes, youāve seen the picture before. But, I have a good reason for posting it twice! This chameleon now has a name! Meet Nadzikambia evanescens. The Mt Inago Sylvan Chameleon. This brand new species to science is found only on one single mountain in the SEAMA Eco System. Having visited many of these places, I can confidently say that itās home is one of the most impressive. Large, elongated, sharp peaks form a jagged row across the sky, giving passers by the impression that they are in actual fact looking at a giant dragon skull. Nestled in-between these peaks is a rainforest so unique that it harbors swathes of animals found nowhere else on earth. The chameleonās scientific name, directly translated, means vanishing chameleon. This points to a very worrying reality. The forests are almost all gone. And with it, their unique biodiversity. But there is hope! Local authorities are interested in saving their natural heritage. If we all stand together to protect the SEAMA we donāt need to witness it disappearing before our very own eyes. Organizations like .mz are already hard at work in the area. Thank you to .conradie and Krystal Tolley for the new species description. Non-macro photos by
