I am delighted to share that I have earned the “Course 2: Building Equitable and Inclusive Agrifood Systems” digital badge and certificate from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) eLearning Academy.

This achievement represents another meaningful milestone in my continuous learning journey towards advancing inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems that create opportunities for women, youth, smallholder farmers and rural communities.

The course has deepened my understanding of the critical role of equity, inclusion and transformative approaches in building food systems that leave no one behind. The knowledge and competencies gained will continue to inform my work in agribusiness development, women’s economic empowerment and sustainable agricultural transformation.

I remain committed to lifelong learning and to leveraging knowledge, partnerships and innovation to contribute to a more inclusive, resilient and prosperous future for Africa’s agrifood sector.

Expanding the Greenleaf Portfolio 🌱 | A New Chapter in Tourism

I am delighted to share that Greenleaf Investments has been selected to participate in the second phase of the Business Development Services (BDS) Programme for enterprises in the tourism sector, implemented under the More Income and Employment in Rural Areas (MIERA III) Programme of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

The MIERA III Programme supports the growth and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises by promoting business development, employment creation, climate resilience, green transformation, and gender-responsive and inclusive business practices.

For Greenleaf Investments, this opportunity represents an exciting new chapter in our journey of growth, diversification and strategic expansion.

Built on a foundation of agribusiness, value addition and inclusive economic empowerment, Greenleaf is now expanding its portfolio to explore the powerful intersection between agriculture, tourism, local enterprise development and sustainable value chains.

We see tremendous potential in agritourism and experiential tourism as pathways to create new markets, strengthen local value chains, showcase Malawi’s agricultural potential, and generate meaningful opportunities for women, young people and rural communities.

Entrepreneurship is shaped not only through ideas, business plans and investments, but also through exposure, learning and practical experience. Agribusiness tourism provides a unique opportunity to connect learning with action—allowing entrepreneurs to gain insights from successful enterprises, understand market dynamics and discover innovative approaches to sustainable business growth.

Through our participation in this programme, Greenleaf Investments will strengthen its business systems, enhance market orientation, build strategic partnerships and further develop the tourism component of our growing enterprise portfolio.

We extend our sincere appreciation to GIZ through the MIERA III Programme, and the Mzuzu University Tourism Incubation Centre, for investing in Malawi’s enterprises and creating platforms that enable businesses to grow, diversify and thrive.

As Greenleaf continues to evolve, our ambition remains clear:

To build commercially viable and socially impactful enterprises that create value, empower communities and contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic transformation.

We are growing.
We are diversifying.
We are creating new pathways for impact. 🌱

Welcome to the next chapter of Greenleaf Investments.

Today, 19 August, Greenleaf Investments joins the world in honouring the humanitarian workers, frontline responders, volunteers and everyday changemakers who continue to serve humanity—often in the most difficult and dangerous circumstances.

We celebrate those who choose compassion over indifference, courage over fear, and action over silence.

At Greenleaf Investments, we believe that meaningful impact begins with people. Through our commitment to agribusiness, rural development, women and youth empowerment, and sustainable enterprise, we strive to contribute to stronger communities, resilient livelihoods and a future where no one is left behind.

This year, the United Nations calls on us to move beyond concern and towards action: “The time for concern is over. The time for consequence is now.”

As we commemorate World Humanitarian Day, may we each ask ourselves: What can I do—where I am, with what I have—to make life better for someone else?

To every humanitarian and changemaker: thank you for showing up, standing up and keeping hope alive.

At Greenleaf Investments, we will continue to believe in the power of people, purpose and collective action.

Together, let us . 🌱💚

Sack Gardening in Action: Promoting Inclusion, Resilience, and Economic Empowerment

As Chairperson of Human Rights for Women and Girls with Disabilities in Malawi (HRWDM), also known as WAG Disabilities, I am proud to witness our Rights Holders actively embracing sack gardening as a practical and sustainable economic empowerment initiative aimed at improving household food security, nutrition, and income generation.

Human Rights for Women and Girls with Disabilities (HRWDM) is a Malawi-based organization dedicated to empowering women and girls with disabilities, combating discrimination, and advocating for their full inclusion in society. Based in Lilongwe, the organization focuses on sexual and reproductive health rights, education, advocacy, and economic empowerment initiatives that strengthen the dignity, independence, and wellbeing of women and girls with disabilities.

For many women and girls with disabilities, barriers such as limited access to land, unemployment, poverty, and exclusion from mainstream economic opportunities continue to affect their livelihoods and overall wellbeing. Sack gardening offers an innovative, affordable, and inclusive solution that enables individuals and households to maximise small spaces for food production while promoting self-reliance and resilience.

Through this initiative, participants are cultivating vegetables and other nutritious crops using locally available resources and climate-smart gardening practices. Beyond improving access to healthy food, sack gardening contributes to reducing household expenditures, generating supplementary income, strengthening resilience to economic shocks, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Importantly, this initiative demonstrates how inclusive community-based interventions can play a critical role in advancing economic empowerment while contributing to sustainable development, climate adaptation, and social inclusion.

This Mother’s Day, I am celebrating the strength, resilience, determination, and leadership of women and girls with disabilities who continue to rise above barriers and create meaningful change within their families, communities, and society at large.

I am encouraged and inspired by the commitment being demonstrated by our Rights Holders as they continue taking meaningful steps towards improved livelihoods and sustainable economic participation — one sack garden at a time.

Happy Mother’s Day! 🌸
