“That’s not my responsibility.”
There’s a difference between respecting the boundaries of your job and using your contract as an excuse to stop caring about the final result.
I’m not saying your wedding photographer should become your wedding planner, retoucher, or venue coordinator.
But if there’s something small that takes 10 seconds to fix and makes the photograph significantly better… why wouldn’t you?
Remove the distracting sign. Fix the fallen centerpiece. Clean up the background. Retouch the temporary blemish.
Being a documentary photographer doesn’t mean being careless about what you deliver.
And being professional isn’t only about doing exactly what’s written in your contract.
Sometimes it’s simply having enough judgment, care, and pride in your work to think:
“Yeah, I could fix this. So I will.”
Because at the end of the day, your couple isn’t going to remember what was technically “your responsibility.”
They’re going to remember the photographs you gave them.
