Chasing this shot wasn’t luck — it was patience.
A few key things had to line up:
• Sunset timing
• Tide level - shallow enough to cover all the debris, but still enough water to keep the boat steady
• The boat had to be there (yes… sometimes it isn’t šŸ˜…)
• And of course… an epic sunset
Getting all of this right means constantly checking tide tables, watching the weather, and showing up again and again.
This wasn’t a one-time visit - I’ve been here more than 30-40 times, and honestly, I’m still chasing that ā€œperfectā€ frame.
That’s the game with photography:
Keep showing up. Keep shooting. Keep hoping for that one magical moment.

Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute at sunrise

There’s something magical about Venice before it wakes — soft golden light brushing against the domes, the canals still and quiet, and the city holding its breath for just a moment.

This morning felt like stepping into a painting.

✨Fun Facts About Proboscis Monkeys & Their Babies
🐵That Nose Isn’t Just for Show!
The male's large, droopy nose isn’t just a funny feature—it helps amplify their calls to attract females and scare off rivals. Babies are born with much smaller, upturned noses.
šŸ‘¶Babies Have Blue Faces!
Newborns are born with bright blue faces and black fur. As they grow, their fur lightens and their noses start to grow. Their faces eventually turn a pinkish colour like the adults.
šŸ’¦Super Swimmers!
Proboscis monkeys are excellent swimmers—thanks to partially webbed feet. Moms will often swim with their babies clinging to their bellies or backs to cross rivers safely.
šŸ¤Mommy Daycare System
In their social groups, mothers often form close-knit ā€œnursery groups,ā€ taking turns watching over each other’s babies—like a monkey daycare!
šŸ¼Constant Clingers
Baby proboscis monkeys cling tightly to their mothers for the first few months, riding on their stomachs or backs. This bond helps them learn social skills and stay safe.
šŸ—£ļøBorn Talkers
Even as infants, they make soft vocalisations to communicate with their mothers—like little coos and squeaks.
šŸ“øEndangered and Adorable
These monkeys are endangered, with habitat loss and hunting threatening their numbers. Seeing a mom with her baby in the wild is both a rare and precious sight.
