Polonezköy📍
A small Polish settlement on the outskirts of Istanbul, dating back to 1842— I had to check out the food Polish /Turkish fusion with Ags
Out of season, the village was quiet and most places were closed. We met a man selling his prize-winning honey by the roadside, who pointed us toward “Mari’s house.”
It turned out to literally be someone’s house. We walked through the kitchen and into a small conservatory with a few tables and just one other group.
That’s where we met Frederik, who was thrilled to speak Polish with Ags. When we asked for a menu, he laughed and said there wasn’t much food available—but told us to take a seat.
Then the dishes started arriving. One after another: a mix of Turkish mezze, classic Polish dishes; more food than the two of us could possibly finish.
Frederik’s hospitality was next level. As we ate, he told us about his time as mayor of Polonezköy. A fifth-generation local, he talked us through history of the town taking us out to his barn which doubled as a small museum. It was packed with old maps, flags, and photographs telling the story of the town.
Truly an unforgettable experience
