Police Arrest Ten Suspected Human Parts Merchants in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested ten suspected human parts merchants following months of intelligence gathering, surveillance and monitoring of their activities.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Monitoring Unit at their various hideouts in Iseyin and Saki areas of the state. They are Adam Ibrahim, 42; Nasiru Kabiru, 22; Tijani Wasiu, 54; Abiola Nasiru, 45; Amusa Gbadamosi, 57; Raheem Taofeek, 46; Jimoh Muritala, 35; Suleiman Busari, 47; Ganiyu Nurudeen, 36; and Usman Abdullahi, 52.

Police said searches conducted at the suspects’ hideouts led to the recovery of several suspected human parts, including one suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of human skull and assorted charms.

According to the Command, the suspects allegedly confessed to involvement in the trafficking of human parts for ritual purposes and are assisting investigators in determining the source and intended use of the recovered items.

The police said the recovered exhibits have been secured for forensic examination, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected syndicate.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives for the intelligence-led operation and assured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and combating criminal activities across the state.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist the police in preventing and detecting criminal activities.

“I’ll Not Interfere in Adekanmbi’s Government”— Makinde

Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, says he will not interfere in the administration of the state after leaving office in May 2027, if the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, Bimbo Adekanmbi, wins the election.

Makinde stated this on Monday at the Hijrah 1448 Luncheon held at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

The governor said he would not assume the role of a political godfather, assuring that Adekanmbi and his running mate, Mufutau Open Salawu, would be allowed to govern independently and be accountable to the people of Oyo State if elected.

He said his administration would ensure a seamless transition, giving the incoming government the freedom to introduce policies that respond to the aspirations of residents.

Makinde also urged voters to assess political candidates based on competence, character and commitment to public service rather than ethnic, religious or other sentiments.

The governor called on governorship candidates to focus their campaigns on issues and development, warning against rhetoric capable of dividing the people ahead of the 2027 election.

He further commended the Muslim community for its support and prayers during his administration, while appreciating security agencies for their role in maintaining peace across the state and securing the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

The APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, in his remarks, thanked the Muslim faithful for their support for the present administration and pledged to sustain the annual Hijrah celebration and other programmes relating to Islam if elected governor.

He also called on the Muslim community and residents of the state to support the APM in the 2027 election.

Oyo Govt, Firm Partner on Smart Agro-City Project in Saki

The Oyo State Government,has entered into a public-private partnership with CTH Trading Stores Limited for the development of a 481.028-hectare Smart Agro-Cosmopolitan City in Saki, a project aimed at boosting agriculture, commerce and sustainable urban development in the Oke-Ogun region.

The company a press statement announced on Monday that, it had received a formal Letter of Engagement from the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority (OYSNTCDA), officially appointing it as the state's preferred development partner for the Oke-Ogun Smart City project.

Located at the Old Veterinary site, off Oje-Owode Road, Saki, the development will occupy nearly 1,200 acres and is expected to integrate agriculture with modern technology-driven infrastructure to stimulate economic growth in the region.

According to the company, the project will be executed in phases and will feature a smart agro-logistics hub with wholesale trade facilities, temperature-controlled cold storage and automated supply chain infrastructure to strengthen regional and cross-border commerce.

Other components include off-grid solar-powered electricity, localized water systems, eco-friendly residential estates, technology-driven business districts and a digital land administration system linked to the Oyo State Government's property registry to ensure secure and transparent land ownership.

Managing Director of CTH Trading Stores Limited, Mr. Covenant Abimbola, described the initiative as a strategic investment designed to transform the economic fortunes of Oke-Ogun.

"We are not just building houses; we are creating a sustainable economic engine for the region by combining green technology with Saki's agricultural strength and commercial potential," he said.

Abimbola commended Governor Seyi Makinde and the leadership of the OYSNTCDA for promoting public-private partnerships that encourage regional development and community empowerment.

He disclosed that environmental impact assessments, site mapping, zoning and preliminary site clearing have commenced, while stakeholder engagement meetings with host communities will be held in the coming weeks.

The company said the official groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, after which construction of the first phase, covering about 180 hectares, will begin.

2027: No Permit, No Campaign Adverts: OYSG Unveils Tough Rules Ahead of Elections

The Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency has announced that all political campaign advertising activities across the state must obtain a mandatory Campaign Permit ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The directive, contained in a notice signed by the Director-General of OYSAA, Oludolapo Eso-Ajanaku, and addressed to the Chairman of the Outdoor Advertising Practitioners Association of Oyo State, is aimed at regulating political advertising and ensuring compliance with the state's signage and advertisement laws.

According to the agency, no advertising practitioner will be allowed to deploy, erect, facilitate, display or undertake any campaign-related advertisement on behalf of any political party, candidate, campaign organisation or support group without first obtaining the required Campaign Permit from OYSAA.

The agency stated that the permit requirement covers a wide range of campaign materials and activities, including political rallies and roadshows, posters, handbills, campaign flyers, banners, flex materials, campaign signage, branded vehicles, mobile advertisements, public address systems, campaign booths, activation stands, campaign-branded T-shirts, caps, souvenirs, billboards and other outdoor advertising structures.

OYSAA explained that the policy is designed to promote orderliness in campaign activities, enhance public safety by preventing the er****on of hazardous advertising structures, protect public infrastructure from misuse and defacement, reduce visual pollution, preserve the aesthetic outlook of communities, ensure fairness in access to approved advertising spaces, and strengthen monitoring and enforcement of campaign advertising regulations.

The agency further directed all practitioners intending to participate in political campaign advertising to register on the OYSAA digital platform. It stressed that only practitioners with valid and active registration on the platform would be eligible to undertake campaign advertising engagements within the state.

It warned that any campaign advertising activity carried out without the requisite permit or by an unregistered practitioner would constitute a violation of OYSAA regulations and would attract appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing laws and regulatory provisions.

OYSAA also released the proposed Campaign Permit fees for candidates seeking elective offices. Presidential candidates are to pay ₦5 million, while governorship candidates will pay ₦2.5 million. The permit fee for senatorial candidates is pegged at ₦1.5 million, while House of Representatives candidates are expected to pay ₦500,000.

State House of Assembly candidates will pay ₦250,000, Local Government Chairmanship candidates ₦100,000, while councillorship candidates will pay ₦50,000.

The agency called on advertising practitioners to comply strictly with the directive, expressing confidence that the measure would contribute to a peaceful, orderly, safe and well-regulated political advertising environment across Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
