HRM, Ọba Abdul-Razaq Adeṣina Adenugba - Ẹkun-Ẹrigba
Ẹbumawe of Agọ-Iwoye At 70! 👑
My approach to this photo session underwent a profound shift as soon as I entered the palace, cos initially, I had assumed that the images I was called to capture would be used primarily for publications and social media. However, the weight of history that permeated the air, echoed in the countless photo-stories adorning the walls, and spanning the 22 years since the monarch ascended to the throne, redefined my perspective.
The photographs on the walls served as a testament to Kabiesi’s remarkable journey, one that delicately balanced tradition and progress. The regalia, the laughter, and the moments of quiet reverence all told a story of a man who had shouldered the responsibility of his forefathers while embracing the inevitability of change. It was then that I realized my role extended far beyond merely capturing the beauty of his face and the grandeur of his attire. I was, in fact, a custodian of his story, entrusted with stitching fragments of time into the fabric of permanence.
The realisation that I had been given the privilege of distilling a fragment of Kabiesi’s 70-year odyssey into frames that would transcend time, outliving us all, was daunting yet exhilarating.
This is yet a reminder of the power of photography, not just as a medium of visual storytelling, but as a keeper of memories, a chronicler of histories, and a bridge between the past, the present, and the future.
Thank you, and .basibo for trusting me to document and share this special moment with Kabiesi.
Happy 70th birthday, Kabiesi.
