We love the challenge of shooting liquids.

The images below reveal the processes involved in capturing outstanding splashes in High Speed Photography.

In order to achieve good outcome, you need some important elements. First, you need focus, concentration, trained eyes, trained hand that sculpt the splashes. Yes, sculpt the splashes. Every splash is a unique work of art and has to be approached as such.

No two splashes are ever the same. You have to train your eyes to follow the liquid as it's been splashed in order to know precisely when to hit the shutter botton and capture the right shot. All these take place within split seconds. Wrong! Less than a second. Why? When capturing images like these, we shoot at 1/8,000th of a second or more. That's why it's often referred to as High Speed Photography. So fast for the ordinary eyes to follow, but after training your eyes in that regard, you will be open to something astonishingly different. Trust me.

It's interesting to note, too, that whatever you use to throw the liquid affects the size, look and feel of the splash. For example, liquid thrown from a cup will be narrower and slimmer. Liquid thrown from a rectangular bowl will be different from that which is thrown from a round bowl. Another determinant is the way and method of throwing the liquid and the speed and timing of the throw. Until you get it right, you keep throwing the splashes and shooting. Never mind the 100s of clicks of the shutter botton. Never mind the 100s of images that will not make the cut. Never mind how messed up the studio becomes. Never mind anything but this: "Get that shot that will make your client 100% happy!"

At 13:58 Photography, we love working with liquids. It's through this process that we bring to your attention the beauty that lies in liquids when it's stopped in an instant of time. It's called "motion freeze," "stop action" etc.

Capturing liquids in this manner is fascinating. You will see what the ordinary eyes don't always see. When this process is employed in a shoot, we go on to take hundreds of different shots. It's all in pursuit of that one exceptional splash and shot-one that speaks to the heart and, above all, move the target to buy into the brand.
