One of the most anticipated moments of the Osun-Osogbo Festival happens long before the Arúgbá begins her procession to the Osun Sacred Grove.

While thousands of people wait outside the Ataoja’s Palace for the sacred journey to begin, the Arúgbá first makes a ceremonial appearance before proceeding to a private chamber for the traditional preparations ahead of the procession. She later returns to her room to complete the final rites before emerging with the sacred calabash.

Her first appearance is always filled with excitement. Family members, devotees, well-wishers, and visitors gather to celebrate her, offer prayers, and wish her a successful journey. The atmosphere is one of joy, anticipation, and heartfelt support as she prepares for one of the festival’s most significant moments.
