"Doctor, My wife must d!e in the Labor room today, I will pay you 250K for the job." Nnadi said to the doctor handling his wife's Childbirth.
The doctor looked at the money and smiled. "Alright sir. Just give me 20 minutes. Let me send the nurses away. The job will be done soon.”
HOW IT STARTED…
It all started after Regina got married to Nnadi.
When they were dating, Nnadi sounded sweet, caring, and loving. Because of that, Regina accepted to marry him when he proposed.
But just a few months after the wedding, everything changed.
When Regina became pregnant, Nnadi began to treat her differently. He told her she was no longer hot and beautiful like before. She was now Too fat compared to when they were dating.
Nnadi told his Dad that he wanted another wife.
His father was against it, and that was when Nnadi’s hatred for Regina increased.
Every day, Nnadi beat Regina.
He slapped her, kicked her pregnant stomach, pushed her around, and treated her like a maid. Sometimes, he brought other women into the house and slept with them in front of her. Regina cried quietly. She could not talk. She was pregnant and afraid.
The night Nnadi hit her head on the wall and tried to strangle her was the day Regina ran to her parents’ house afraid to die.
But her father shouted at her.
“People will mock us. A woman must stay with her husband and endure everything.”
Regina showed them her bruised body.
“Look at me Mom, I’m dying.”
Her mother said nothing. She only told her,
“Go back to your husband’s house.”
With no other choice, Regina returned.
She did not attend antenatal care. And every night, she received beatings when Nnadi returned home drunk.
Then came the day of labor.
Regina had gone out to buy foodstuffs when sharp pain suddenly hit her. She screamed and fell. Women around rushed her to the nearest hospital.
After examining her, the doctor said,
“You have serious injuries. You must undergo an operation, or you may die while pushing. The operation is 250K. Call your husband.”
Regina cried and cried. People tried calling Nnadi, but he did not pick up.
Her water burst. She screamed in pain.
“Please doctor, let me just push. I have no one,” she begged.
“No,” the doctor replied. “It must be operation, and we need your husband to sign.”
Regina endured labor pain for two hours… then three… then six, screaming as the baby struggled in her stomach.
Just then, Nnadi arrived.
Regina couldn’t believe her eyes. She was so happy.
But Nnadi did not even look at her. He pulled the doctor aside and whispered.
“Doctor, my wife must die in the labor room today. I will pay you 250K for the job,” Nnadi said.
“But sir, why do you want your wife dead?” Dr. Felix asked.
“I don’t care. Make it look like she died while pushing. She must not see tomorrow.”
“Alright sir,” the doctor replied. “Give me 20 minutes, I will be done.”
"I can't wait to get rid of this fat f00l and get married to another girl." Nnadi muttered .
Meanwhile, Regina lay on the hospital bed, screaming from labor pain.
She whispered to her baby,
“Don’t worry, my baby. You will be out soon. Daddy is here to pay for the operation.”
But unknown to her…
danger was already close.
