The immigration of Venezuelans. In this photograph engineers, doctors, teachers, just to name some of the professions that these young men used to perform, before the crisis of their natal Venezuela. The same crisis forced them to emigrate to Ecuador. Here they work in the different jobs available at the coast within the artisanal fishing chain.

They carry fish from the boats to the market, clean fish, clean boats, and even though these are low paid jobs in Ecuador (under 400 usd a month), they make a better living with these jobs here, than when working as a doctor in Venezuela, due to the inflation.

Up to the date there are over 4million Venezuelans living abroad due to the severe crisis of the country.

The fashion industry is responsible for one of the main sources of plastic pollution: fabric. No many people talk about it, but it's time to bring it up to conversation. It's not only plastic bottles, packaging. It's what we wear.

Here are some things that we can actually do as consumers.

1. With the making of the gifts / groceries / household goods
2. With the giving of those gifts / buying the groceries / household goods
3. With the disposing of the gift / waste

In a photo essay, I share my findings on 'The Relative Impacts of Artisanal and Industrial Fishing' and its impact on full ecosystems.
The photo essay is based in the province of Santa Elena in Ecuador, but unfortunately, it is a common story in many fishing communities around the world.

My photographs are being exhibited at the headquarters of WWF Nederland ( Wereld Natuur Fonds - WWF ). Go and have a look at them if you're around Zeest between now and the next month. They are a part of my exhibition called "where does my plastic go" that portrays the plastic pollution reality in developing countries.

Even though the pictures portrait the pollution in, perhaps, far away countries, our trash leaks into the near rivers and oceans and end up in faraway countries as well. Think about it, all the trash we create has nowhere else to go than to stay on our planet.

We're all part of the problem, and luckily of the solution as well.

‘Onze’ Cees heeft wel wat zitrust verdiend na al die Operatie Jonas activiteiten van afgelopen tijd. Wisten jullie trouwens dat de naam Operatie Jonas is bedacht door Cees? Links van hem probeert iemand hem na te apen, terwijl op de achtergrond de foto’s van Fabiola Minda te zien zijn op het hoofdkantoor van Wereld Natuur Fonds - WWF in Zeist.

Fishermen, salesmen, boat-parking, fish cleaners, boat cleaners, and more, are some of the many jobs that need to be done in order to bring the fresh fish to the table of thousands, or perhaps millions of towns and cities in the world.

In this series, I’ll introduce you to the faces that work hard every day to keep feeding entire families in the province of Santa Elena, Ecuador.
