Syracuse, Sicily, October 2024.

The Sea Eagle crew team up with the Italian Coastguard to remove fishing gear in a marine protected area.

98 cages and 1,750 meters of line were recovered in this operation, adding on to a growing list of successful actions retrieving fishing gear in the Mediterranean sea. Since 2021 the Sea Eagle has partnered with authorities to patrol the Mediterranean to fight back against illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in the world's most overfished sea.

Gabonese territorial waters, August 2025.

Spinner shark eating discarded fish dropped off a trawler.

Many commercial fishing vessels dump discard at regular intervals, attracting sharks and other predators. Easy meals make sharks less reliant on natural prey and make them spend less time hunting in the wild by effectively creating temporary shark feeding hotspots with sharks sticking around the discard site for several hours or even days. These shark hotspots increase shark density, affecting not only shark behaviour but also local habitats by increasing bite-rates and shark activity in the discard area.
