I recently spent a night by a lekking ground for the great snipe in the mountains of Trøndelag. These small giants come from Central Africa to Norway every year and fly non stop for 3,5 days to get here!

Once they have arrived, the males find their lekking arena, a small bog, and every night for some weeks in may and june, they compete for females on small humps. They puff their chest, flap their wings and jump around and make a distinct clicking sound. Photographing these crazy birds in the most beautiful light was a blast!
