New Zealand: the ‘Hollywood of the Pacific’!

Still photography is all about shooting powerful images to capture the essence and emotion of a film.

I’ve worked on a number of independent New-Zealand made movies as a stills photographer and cinematographer.

Below is an image we used to promote Broken Hallelujah in 2014 - a film Inspired by a true story about love, the power of friendships and the complications of families.

If you’ve got it, haunt it .. 👻

Spooks aside, Waikumete Cemetery in West Auckland is a beautiful spot for a stroll among the wildflowers and its 70,000+ sleeping souls.

Did you know:

• Waikumete (waters of the kumete bowl) is the largest cemetery in New Zealand at 108 hectares

• The cemetery opened in 1886. Back then, bodies arrived by train at Glen Eden station and were carried in wheelbarrows from there to the gravesite

• It’s believed that 19 New Zealand murderers were hanged and buried (standing up) at Waikumete in unmarked graves at an area known as Murderers Grove

• Victims of the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic are buried at Waikumete as well as the unidentified victims of the 1979 Mount Erebus air crash

• The Chapel of Faith is reportedly haunted by a mysterious woman in black .. 👻

Back in 2017 when international travel was all the rage, we had a great day at Auckland Airport photographing The University of Auckland Business School masters graduate, Jenny Ung who was working for Singapore Airlines at the time.
