The skittish Banded Rail | Moho pererū, finally emerged out of the mangroves for me to photograph!
These guys are pretty elusive and a lot of waiting and patience is required as when they see a human they dive for the nearest cover and will wait a while before emerging again. You need to keep quiet still and low in the grass if you don't have a ghillie suit.

I was busy photographing a fernbird in a bush at the base of this cabbage tree when this Guy/Gal? shows up making a racket to pull my attention to them, it was quiet happy to pose for a bit before taking off after another Tieke |Saddle back that came in close by.

It was quiet a awesome experience to see so many Kakariki |Red crowned Parakeets in Shakespear over the last weekend. It was very rare to see two birds hanging out together for a awhile they normally greet each other briefly before going about their own business. It was also a rare encounter that this pair came down and was feeding on the track within 10 meters of us (with Geoff Shepherd and Craig Newell).
