The self-taught, Nelson-based artist, originally from South Africa, has developed a distinctive style and technique in creating her collection, “Submerged”, in these unique still-life compositions, de Wit draws from various botanical elements collected either in nature or from local florists and gardens. Marina de Wit is inspired by Dutch female artists from the 16th century like Rachael Ruysch and Maria van Oosterwijck. The unique fusion of digital design and painterly style is reflected in her work. Looking at her pieces, we are reminded of the immense beauty and opulence of nature. The subtle details and intricacies draw the viewer in deeper to discover not only the work but also the deeper meaning behind each piece. The artist has been featured in many publications including ​The New Zealand Artist Magazine, Practical Photography Magazine (UK), NZ
Photographer Magazine and D Photo (NZ). Marina’s artwork was selected for the juried exhibition at the Royal Horticultural Society's annual Botanical Art Show, London, July 2019, where she received a Silver Medal.
