Not because I didnโ€™t love it.
Not because the photos werenโ€™t great.
And definitely not because it was anything personal.

The truth is, I photograph far more than what you see on my feed.

Between weddings, branding sessions, families, couples, events, commercial work, editing, admin, being a wife and mum, and actually trying to balance this thing called life, I simply donโ€™t get around to sharing everything.

I also try to keep my feed focused on the work I most often photograph and want to attract more of: weddings and branding.

So if youโ€™ve ever had a session with me and wondered why it never appeared on Instagram or my blog, please know it wasnโ€™t intentional.

Iโ€™m definitely not an โ€œunplugged wedding onlyโ€ photographer. I believe memories are for everyone, not just the couple and not just my camera.

Yes, respect the photographer.
Yes, let me do my job.
But I will never take away the opportunity for guests to capture their own honest moments of joy, love, and celebration. After all, they came all the way to witness the day and to share the memories and moments with the couple for years to come.

Because candid memories created by the people who love you?
Those hit differently.

Time to reintroduce myself!

Hi!!! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป Iโ€™m Ilse and Iโ€™m stoked to have you here.

This is me, embracing my own awkwardness in front of the camera because yes, I make myself do shoots every now and then so I never forget what it feels like to be in your shoes. It helps me guide you better, laugh with you, and make the whole experience feel natural.

A few fun facts about me:

* Iโ€™m married to the most fantastic husband, and together weโ€™re raising two beautiful, busy boys.
* My accent gives away Iโ€™m South African before I even introduce myself.
* Iโ€™m an oenophile (lover of wine - red wine is my love language) and a pluviophile (lover of rain). Unless Iโ€™m shooting. Then rain and I arenโ€™t on speaking terms.
* Iโ€™m a total extrovert who gets energy from the people around me. Human connection is my happy place.
* Before photography, I studied interior design and owned a furniture store. Creativity has always been in my bones and photography stole my heart
* Iโ€™m terrible with names but good with faces. If Iโ€™ve photographed you, Iโ€™ll remember your face forever.
* I have a โ€œshoot day hype playlistโ€ that I play on repeat on my way to weddings and sessions.
* Iโ€™m a Formula 1 fan with a few favourite drivers (but donโ€™t make me pick a team ๐Ÿ˜‰).
* Iโ€™m obsessed with true love, real connections and chasing golden light.
* My face says exactly what Iโ€™m thinking and (unfortunately) I canโ€™t control it most days ๐Ÿ˜…

Branding shoots always remind me why I love this job so much. Photographing here in Cambridge felt like capturing a team who genuinely cares about their people.

I truly believe branding photography helps people feel connected. It shows what you do, how you do it and the heart behind it. And when clients feel that connection, working together becomes effortless.

And Iโ€™ve kept the best for last!

The moment after the first kiss and the confetti?
It belongs to them. And the people who love them and who were invited to celebrate the day and moment.
I will never ask a celebrant or MC to stop guests from coming forward with hugs, tears, joy and those beautiful congratulations.

Perfect portraits can wait.

Real moments canโ€™t.

So please hug your loved ones when they get married. Enjoy that moment and celebrate it together ๐ŸŽ‰

This is why I photograph weddings the way I do. Honest, raw, and overflowing with connection and love.

Two cameras. Two flashes. Four lenses. A stack of SD cards. Backups for my backups.

Because hereโ€™s the truth, things can go wrong. But my couples will never feel it.

Years ago, I had a wedding where a piece of gear failed, completely. No saving it. My spare wasnโ€™t 100% reliable either. But Iโ€™m a professional and I made it work. The day was beautiful, the gallery was full, everything was perfect and the couple never knew a thing.

But that feeling?
That moment of โ€œthis can NEVER happen againโ€?
Itโ€™s simple, never again if I can help it.

Now I over-prepare. I double, triple, and quadruple pack. Because when you book me, youโ€™re investing in more than the photos I create. Youโ€™re investing in the the presence, the calm, the troubleshooting, the many, many years of experience.

And thatโ€ฆ is priceless!

This past month was the busiest Iโ€™ve ever had ๐ŸŽ‰

The kind of busy where 95% of nights ended past midnight, fuelled by coffee, wine, true crime videos and a whole lot of heart.

I took 24,280 photos and a lot of video clips in the last four weeks alone.

Wild.
Beautiful.
A little chaotic.
And absolutely worth it.

I donโ€™t work all day every day as Iโ€™m a Mum first and photographer second. But this time of year is its own kind of whirlwind and definitely the exception, not the rule. Iโ€™m beyond grateful for the most amazing clients and for my incredible family who let me live my best creative life.

Iโ€™m driving to New Plymouth for the fourth week in a row today. I still have one branding shoot, one family shoot and one wedding to do before I drive back on Sunday and fly to South Africa on Monday.
