On Little Tobago Island, previously called Bird of Paradise Island an attempt was made to introduce these birds from New Guinea. The attempt failed. But as we climbed too the top an endemic Motmot landed in a tree close by. This is the Trinidad Motmot in Portrait

Another challenge was to find and photograph a Ruby Topaz Hummingbird. If I had to choose, hummingbirds would be up there with my favourite species. They seem to have amazing abilities including the ability to fly backwards and are photogenic beyond belief. Still, I haven't seen Birds of Paradise yet. Great to see Jan engaging and enjoying locating and identifying them in some amazing locales. keeps us fit!

I relish the challenge created by others eg ( Dustin Chen, Eric Tan ) of their stunning photos which they regularly post from remote and dangerous locations. With delays, diversions, cancellations and endless queues, travelling is not for the faint hearted. Expect the unexpected is my mantra and get to airports early. So I now have a few images from the US and Caribbean to post. The first is the Tufted Coquette, a tiny hummingbird I photographed at Asa Wright in Trinidad. It is found in low lying areas in Venezuela and Guyana. Its really hard to see as it moves so fast and is about the size of a bumblebee.
