After a bit of encouragement, I finally decided to throw one of my photos into the Speedway New Zealand Photo of the Year competition 🏁📸

Unfortunately, with only half a season behind me, I wasn’t eligible to enter Photographer of the Year—but you might see me in that category next year 😉

The image I entered is one that took me completely by surprise when I first posted it. The response was incredible, and it quickly became one of my most-loved speedway photos. In many ways, it felt like my “big break” in the speedway photography world, so it seemed like the perfect image to enter.

Throwback to my first meeting infield — the New Zealand Minisprint Championship 🏁

I’ve seen plenty of accidents in my time around Speedway, but this was the first one that genuinely made my heart skip a beat. Anyone who loves open wheelers knows just how hard these drivers push their machines — hard through the corners and even harder down the straights.

Was definitely a relief seeing Jayden Clark - 14p out and back on his feet after what looked like a pretty decent wall grab coming out of turn 4.

💥 2025/26 Top Moments 💥

Reflecting back on the 2025/26 season, let’s look back at some of my best shots from the biggest moments this year!

2026 brought up 10 years since the Gisborne Giants debut at the ENZED Superstock Teams championship!

Back in 2016, Pete Rees did the impossible, with only ten days notice he (alongside Brendon Learmonth) managed to pull together drivers, sponsors, liveries and everything that goes with the greatest show on dirt, bringing the Giants to life.
The big dream behind it all? To win alongside his boys (Asher & Ethan) on the grandest stage.
Ten years later and although not on track himself, Pete’s dream became reality.
Ethan and Asher would lead the Giants to the top step for very the first time, and with Pete still heavily involved in squad, this was as good as it gets!
A proud family moment, I’m sure.
