EGL Photography NZ Photographer based in Queenstown, NZ I purchased my first DSLR back in 2016 and took it everywhere, to capture everything to make up for lost time.

I’ve always been fascinated with trying to capture that perfect moment or scene with a camera, but most of my life it was with someone else’s camera. I lived in Colorado USA at the time, so most of my images were filled with beautiful mountains and landscapes and soon after I started to get into very basic astrophotography. Unfortunately though, life quickly started to get in the way of photograph

y and eventually my camera laid idle collecting dust for several years, spanning an international move to New Zealand. However, after moving to Queenstown in 2022, the opportunities and time for me to dust off the camera and get back to what I enjoyed increased. And in February of 2023, I captured my first Aurora with my DSLR and it reignited my passion for astrophotography!!! I’ve since upgraded my kit with a mirrorless camera and higher quality lenses, and I am excited for what I have the ability to capture and share in the future! Thanks for stopping by :)

Today’s stars:

❤️ 1. “The Spicy Noodle That Found Religion”

This red coral fungus looks like it’s halfway between becoming a gourmet ramen topping and starting its own cult in the forest.

🧡 2. “Melted Cheddar in Witness Protection”

This yellow‑orange coral fungus is clearly trying to blend in… badly.

Honestly, coral fungi are just the forest’s way of reminding us that mushrooms can be weird, loud, and fabulous.

🍄🪲 Macro Season Is BACK! 🪲🍄

I’ve been out crawling around the forest like a confused wildlife documentary host, and it paid off — four new macro shots to kick off the season.

Two mushrooms doing their best impression of tiny forest umbrellas…
…and two Harlequin Ladybirds — one adult, one larva.

Fun facts while you’re here:

Harlequin Ladybird larvae look like they were designed by someone who only had five minutes to finish a Pokémon.

The adults are the ones with the glossy black shell and bright orange/red spots — adorable, until you’re an aphid.

Mushrooms, meanwhile, continue to be the introverts of the forest: quiet, mysterious, and popping up only when conditions are just right.

I’m absolutely buzzing that macro season has arrived — the world gets weird and wonderful when you get close enough.

🌌 AND… big astrophotography projects are in the works.
